SOFTBALL: Bears beat Christian, Owensboro in Sports Warehouse Catholic Classic

The weekend of May 4-5 saw the Butler County High School softball team battle both opponents on the field and the weather at the Sports Warehouse Catholic Classic hosted by Owensboro Catholic High School.  Nevertheless, the Bears were able to play five games in two days, picking up wins against Owensboro (6-3) and #5 Christian County (6-4), while losing to #1 Allen County Scottsville (2-0), South Spencer, IN (2-0), and #11 Louisville Male (2-1).

Despite a rough start on Friday night, the Butler County High School freshmen softball team picked up two impressive wins on Saturday to finish strong in the Owensboro Catholic Freshman Tournament held on April 27-28.  The Bears dropped a 7-0 decision on Friday to Catholic before rallying on Saturday for a 1-0 win over Allen County-Scottsville and a 10-0 schellacking of Muhlenberg County.

Gaskey picks up win and save in series at EKU

Murray State softball rebounded from trailing 7-3, scoring six unanswered runs, three in the top of the ninth to win 10-7 in nine innings at Eastern Kentucky.

Mo Ramsey put the Racers (31-19, 18-11 OVC) on the scoreboard first in game two as EKU starter Shaylon Robb threw wide of first on the attempt, advancing to third as the ball rolled down the fence into foul territory in the outfield. She scored on a wild pitch, sliding into home as the throw to Robb from the EKU catcher landed in front of the plate.

SOFTBALL: Bears drop district games to Grayson, Edmonson

Last week proved to be a tough one for Butler County High School softball as the Bears fell to two district opponents - Grayson County and Edmonson County - by a score of 3-2 and 5-1, respectively.  The losses mean Butler County (15-10) will either be a #2 or #3 seed for the 12th District tournament and will face Edmonson County for the third time.

Payton Grubb makes the throw home

The Butler County High School softball team picked up its third 12th District win last week with a hard-fought 5-4 decision over rival Edmonson County at Brownsville.  Later in the week, the Bears easily downed Russellville (18-3) on Thursday, before getting a pair of wins on Friday in the rain-shortened Greenwood Border Battle.  Butler defeated Warren Central 11-1 in five innings and handed Henderson County a 5-3 loss.

SOFTBALL: Bears battle 12th District foes

Last week marked the beginning of all-important district competition with Butler County squaring off against Trinity twice and Grayson County once.  The Bears defeated the Lady Raiders 10-0 on Monday and 5-4 on Tuesday, before falling 7-1 to Grayson County on Thursday. 

Butler County tallied 11 hits in Monday's 5-inning win including singles by Madeline Drake, Amy Rogers (2), Natoshia White, Morgan Manning, Hannah Peach, Kassie Phelps, Alex Embry, and Payton Grubb (2).  Rogers also had a double and stolen base.  White also had a stolen base.  Drake led the way with three RBIs.

Bears go 1-2 at Oldham Spring Break Classic

The Butler County Bears' softball lost one, won one, and then lost another in last weekend's Oldham County Spring Break Classice.  The Bears fell 3-1 to 12th Region power Mercer County on Friday night; rallied to defeat North Bullitt 9-3 on Saturday morning; then bowed out of the tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Holy Cross (Louisville).

Hot Rods' host Media Day

Video cameras, zoom lenses, recording devices, and reporter's notepads were commonplace on Tuesday, April 3, as the Bowling Green Hot Rods held its annual "Media Day" in anticipation of Thursday's home season opener against the South Bend Silver Hawks.  The three-game series will conclude on Saturday night at Bowling Green Ball Park with a fireworks show following the game.

The Butler County High School Bears softball team made it three in a row on Tuesday night with an 8-2 home win over University Heights Academy.  The win was the third consecutive for the Bears, who defeated Logan County 10-0 on Monday night and Barren County 7-2 on the previous Friday.  Butler County (6-4) hit the road on Thursday to participate in the Oldham County Spring Break Classic.

The Butler County Bears' softball team got back on the winning track Friday night with a 15-1, 5-winning win at McLean County.  The Bears used a 12-hit attack, solid defense and consistent pitching to earn the win.

Junior shortstop Madeline Drake powered Butler County offensively - coming a home run short of hitting for the cycle.  Drake, the team's lead-off hitter, had a single, double, triple, two RBI, and scored four times for the Bears.
