Bears defeat Trinity; advance in Touchstone Energy All "A" Tournament

Butler County continued its winning ways last week with a pair of wins over Whitesville Trinity and Frederick Fraize, respectively.  The Bears notched another 12th District win on Friday over Trinity, 73-42.  On Saturday, Butler County cruised to a 87-46 win over Frederick Fraize High School (Cloverport) in the Touchstone Energy All "A" Tournament at Hancock County High School.    

Neither game was ever in doubt as the Bears took control early on and put the game out of reach.

Bears drop three at Ohio County tournament; now headed to Metcalfe

A Butler County boys' basketball team battling illness dropped three games last week in its first holiday tournament - the Danny Annis Memorial Eagle Classic hosted by Ohio County High School.

The Bears lost two close contests - a 77-71 game against Daviess County in the first round and a 69-64 decision against Lake County, TN.  Butler County fell in its third and final game to Russellville, 79-51.

B.C. Bears notch key district wins over Trinity & Edmonson

The Butler County Bears basketball team sits atop the 12th District standings this week after convincing home wins over Whitesville Trinity (77-55) on Tuesday and Edmonson County (74-51) on Thursday.  Being in first place in the 12th District is relatively new for Butler County basketball - a fact not lost on head coach Calvin Dockery.

Bears fall to East

In what was a light one-game schedule, the Butler County Bears dropped a 79-73 home decision last week to the Warren East Raiders.

A slow first quarter put the Bears in a nine-point hole, trailing 19-10 at the end of the first quarter.  Zeke Woodcock nailed a half-court three pointer at the buzzer to get the deficit to single digits.

In a sign that Grayson County's basketball dominance in the 12th District may be waning, both the Cougars and Lady Cougars left Morgantown last night with losses to Butler County.

BCHS Basketball Preview: Meet the Bears 2012-13

When the Butler County Bears hit the court on Monday night to start the 2012-13 season there will be a new head coach on the sidelines, and a new emphasis for the team.

According to first-year head coach Calvin Dockery this edition of the Bears will concentrate on defense. Dockery said, “It’s what I want to be our calling card.”

Prep Basketball: Bears fall to Eagles in season opener

The Calvin Dockery era began last night as the Butler County Bears' basketball team traveled to Owensboro to face the Apollo Eagles in a Third Region matchup.  Unfortunately, the Bears were unable to stop the Eagles - perhaps the best team in the region - falling 77-42 in the season opener for both team and Coach Dockery's first as head coach.

Prep Football: Aces trump Bears 45-0

Dylan Havens was air-borne Friday night!

An Owensboro Catholic touchdown with only four seconds remaining in the first half proved to be a momentum game changer on Friday night as the Aces cruised in the second half to a 45-0 win in Morgantown over Butler County.  Though a lopsided score in the end, the game was competitive throughout as the Bears threatened to score multiple times but, nevertheless, weren't able to find the elusive end zone.  Turnovers, penalties, and poor field position hindered the Bears' scoring efforts for much of the game.

SOFTBALL: Butler bows out of regional tournament with 7-4 loss to Catholic

Butler County fell behind early and rallied late before falling 7-4 to Owensboro Catholic on Monday in the Third Region Softball Tournament at Daviess County High School.  

Catholic (27-10) scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.  Butler answered with a run on third on a sac fly by Hannah Peach that scored Madeline Drake.  

Trailing 2-1, the third inning proved to be the decisive one as the Lady Aces exploded for four runs to take a 6-1 lead.  Another run in the fifth extended Catholic's lead to 7-1.

SOFTBALL: Butler County wraps up regular season with three wins; finishes with 21-15 record

The KHSAA 2012 softball regular season came to an end last week with the Butler County High School Bears winning three of its last four games and finishing with a 21-15 record, marking five consecutive years with 20-win seasons.

The Bears traveled west on Friday, May 11, and came away with a solid 9-0 win against Dawson Springs - a team that handed Butler County a home loss last season.
