Bears drop games at Muhlenberg, Owensboro

Butler County (1-1) found itself on the wrong side of the score on Monday night at Muhlenberg County in prep softball action.  In the varsity game, Butler County's bats were outmanned by Mustang pitcher Nikki Peveler as the Bears fell 7-0. 

In the junior varsity game, defensive woes proved to be the difference in the game as Butler County errors contributed significantly to a 10-2 loss.

The Mustangs plated three runs in the second, three more in the third and another in the 5th for the 7-0 varsity win in an 11-hit outing.

BC Softball battles from behind for 5-4 10-inning tie-breaker win at Apollo

In its season opener, the Butler County High School Bears' softball team won an extra inning barn-burner, defeating the Apollo E-Gals 5-4 in ten innings at Owensboro.  

The Bears fell behind 3-0 early before rallying to tie the game 3-3 in the 5th inning.  With two outs in the inning, Jazmin Reynolds reaches base on an error; Amy Rogers then singles and Madeline Drake took advantage of another Apollo defensive mistake to load the bases.  Natoshia White then rocketed a 3-2 pitch over the head of the E-Gal right-fielder to clear the bases and tie the game at 3-3.

BC Bears Softball Rebuilding in 2012

The Butler County Bears softball team - 2012 edition - is optimistic about its upcoming season despite losing three starters to graduation, as well battling the injury bug during the preseason.

Gone in 2012 are first baseman Taylor Manning, centerfielder speedster Lindsey Blair, and three-time All-State pitcher and current Murray State player CheyAnne Gaskey.  But, this is not a team that is savoring its past success but rather is focused squarely on the future.

Maelynn Bilicki signs to play volleyball at University of The Cumberlands

Maelynn Bilicki signed with the University of The Cumberlands to continue her volleyball career.

Maelynn is a senior at Butler County High School and a BCHS archery team and BCHS Lady Bears volleyball team member. She is the daughter of Kenny and Kristy Reynolds.

Bears sweep Raiders in 12th District series

MORGANTOWN — Butler County swept Whitesville Trinity in a 12th District baseball series played Monday, April 22-Tuesday, April 23, winning 6-5 and 12-0 in five innings. 

The Bears exited the series 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the 12th District.

Butler County 6, Whitesville Trinity 5: Butler County outlasted host Whitesville Trinity 6-5 in a 12th District game on Monday, April 22.

Malacki Murphy started on the mound for Butler County and earned the win. Murphy pitched six innings, recording five strikeouts.

Butler County falls to Madisonville-North Hopkins in 10 innings

Hancock County 11, Butler County 0 (5 innings)

Butler County was held scoreless as visiting Hancock County pulled away to win 11-0 in five innings on Tuesday, April 23. 

Miley Franzell started in the circle for Butler County and took the loss. 

Replacing Franzell, Karrington Hunt pitched in relief for the Bears. 

Offensively, Butler County was limited throughout the game. Hunt, Parker Willoughby and Taylor Smith each delivered one hit for the Bears. 

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 2-14.

Butler County girls' archery team finishes fifth in state tournament

LEXINGTON — Butler County finished fifth out of 22 teams in the KHSAA Girls' Archery State Tournament on Tuesday, April 16.

BCHS Softball: Bears outlast Ohio County 3-2

 MORGANGTOWN — Butler County outlasted Ohio County 3-2 on Monday, April 15. 

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 2-10. 

The Bears plated the game-winning run in the bottom half of the fifth inning. 

Miley Franzell pitched a complete game for Butler County and claimed the win in the circle. Franzell limited Ohio County to two runs on six hits. The Butler County pitcher struck out one Ohio County batter.
