BCMS Softball off to a strong start

With several games already under its belt, the Butler County Middle School Softball team is off to a strong start to its 2019 season, compiling a 7-2-1 mark on the season.

Friday night will mark the official beginning of the 2019 football season as the Butler County High School Bears travel to face the Logan County Cougars.  Logan defeated the Bears last season by a lopsided margin but Head Coach Brandon Embry is hoping to improve on that outcome.   


BCHS Volleyball 2019

The 2019 Lady Bear Volleyball season will begin this week with games vs Russellville, Metcalfe County, and Todd County, all on the road.  Saturday, August 24th, is “Meet the Team” night at the high school at 2:00.  All players will be introduced and will scrimmage. Also the k-6 graders that participated in volleyball camp last week will be introduced and show off their skills.  The Lady Bears will unveil the new “Brag Board” which contains the schools record holders in all statistical categories. The board will be placed in the hallway alongside the other sports boards.

McKee to play in East-West All-Star game

Butler County Baseball will be represented in the annual Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association East-West All Star game.  Hunter McKee, a middle infielder and pitcher, will be playing on the West Junior team.


GRCF Terrapin Race 2019: Cason McLean, Alex Phelps & Aiden Henderson take overall top prizes

Cason McLean won the Grand Finale Race; Alex Phelps was runner-up; and Aiden Henderson finished in third place.

A total of 295 terrapins and nearly as many smiling children gathered around the basketball court to take part in the annual terrapin race at the 2019 Green River Catfish Festival.  Always a crowd favorite, the event featured 18 “Heat” Races with first, second and third place finishers receiving cash prizes - $15, $10 and $5, respectively.


GRCF Fishing 2019: No tagged fish? Not a problem as local anglers win products, prizes and gift cards with daily drawings from Gander Outdoors

Although eleven tagged catfish were caught in this year’s Green River Catfish Festival Fishing Tournament, many fishermen who didn’t catch a tagged fish are still snagging prizes, outdoor products and gift cards courtesy of Gander Outdoors.





GRCF 2019: Ten tagged catfish caught in first two days of tournament

UPDATE:  The Green River Catfish Festival Fishing Tournament ended on Monday with one additional tagged fish caught--Jodie McKinney (tag #0433).  McKinney's catch brings the total to 11 tagged catfish caught in the three-day tournament.  Those who caught tagged fish will find out how much money they have won at the opening ceremonies on Thursday, July 4, during the opening ceremonies of the 2019 Green River Catfish Festival at 5:00 p.m.

Jayden Jenkins' catfish wasn't a tagged one but it was one of the larger catfish turned in at 9.28 lbs.

A high river and plenty of current didn’t deter anglers from hitting the Green River on Saturday, morning - June 29 -  as the annual Catfish Festival Fishing Tournament kicked off.  

As of mid-afternoon Saturday, five  tagged catfish had been caught.
