Lawson is the 6’6” starting center for the 12th district championship and 3rd region championship basketball team. He helped lead his team to an undefeated season against 3rd region opponents this year. He is a junior at BCHS and the son of Stephen and Stacy Rice. The Rice family resides in the Logansport community of Butler County.

Trever is the 6’5” starting forward for the 12th district championship and third region championship basketball team. He helped lead his team to an undefeated season against 3rd region opponents this year. He is a junior at BCHS and the son of Denny and Britany Deweese. Trever lives in the Leonard Oak community of Butler County.

Beech Tree News will be doing a “Bears Spotlight” feature for our Butler County High School students who are excelling in athletics, academics and the arts. Be watching for our features of the Sweet Sixteen bound boys basketball team, state champion track stars, prestigious scholarship recipients, archery sharp shooters, All-State choir recipients and more! We will post our first featured student later today.

Bears play in Rupp Arena on Thursday, March 21

OWENSBORO — Making history, determined Butler County defeated Owensboro Catholic 73-57 in the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament title game at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Tuesday, March 12.

OWENSBORO — Butler County pulled away to beat Ohio County 69-45 in the semifinals of the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday, March 9in front of a packed crowd.

Following the win, Butler County improved to 22-8. The Bears advanced to the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament title game. 

As the 2024 Bears head into the semi-final game of the 3rd Region on Saturday, March 9 at 7:45pm, let's take a glimpse into their past achievements. 

OWENSBORO — Butler County pulled away to defeat Daviess County 79-69 in the quarterfinals of the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Thursday, March 7.

Butler County Middle School celebrated their 8th grade volleyball players on Thursday night.

OWENSBORO — Butler County suffered a season-ending loss as Owensboro pulled away to win 58-40 in the quarterfinals of the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Monday, March 4.

Following the loss, Butler County exited the 2023-24 girls' high school basketball season 18-14.

Setting the tone, Owensboro outscored Butler County 12-7 in the opening quarter.

Owensboro led 32-21 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

Extending its lead, Owensboro led 52-27 at the end of the third quarter.
