SOFTBALL: Bears beat Grayson, McLean; fall to Carlisle & Marshall

The Butler County Bears varsity squad is off to a .500 start after four games with wins over Grayson County and McLean County and losses to Carlisle County and Marshall County.

BC Bassmasters kicks off 2017 season.

Butler County Bassmasters held their first Open tournament for the 2017 season at Peabody WMA Saturday March the 18th. The air temperature was a little chilly but the lake conditions were good with 66 fish being brought to the weigh scale for a total weight of 126.50 pounds for the tournament, with all fish being released alive back into South and Island Lakes. 31 boats participated in the tournament with Ryan Coleman and John McEwen taking 1st place with 17.01 lbs.

BCHS Bears' basketball plans summer camp sessions

2017 Bear Camp-1.docxThe Butler County High School boys' basketball team will be hosting a camp this summer.  Bear Camp will be conducted in sessions this year. Each session cost $10 and you can choose the desired session or all sessions.  For example:  Preschool through 2nd grade has three sessions to choose from the cost is $10 each session or $25 for all 3 sessions.

SOFTBALL PREVIEW: Bears gear up for 2017 season

With a high school roster of 26 players, including a core of six upperclassmen, the Butler County Bears' softball team is set to kick off its 2017 season.  Butler County has four seniors returning from a squad that went 18-13-2 during 2016 but lost 6-4 in the first round of the 12th District Tournament to Grayson County.

Kentucky Afield Outdoors: White bass spawning runs just around the corner

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 9, 2017) – February days in the 60s make for crowded boat ramps and golf courses during a time of year usually spent indoors.
Everything, nature wise, seems a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. Buds show on lilac bushes, green grass already grows in bunches and the sound of lawn mowers permeates an afternoon backyard barbecue.
The rare winter temperatures may alter white bass spawning runs as well.

Bears beat Hancock in OT; advance to semi-finals of 3rd Region Tournament

The Butler County Bears won in dramatic fashion on Thursday night with a 51-48 overtime win over Hancock County in the first round of the Third Region Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter.  A low-scoring affair, the Bears found themselves on the wrong of a 37-34 score when junior guard Will Moore drilled a 30-plus foot jumper at the buzzer to force and overtime period.  Moore sank another 3-pointer in the over

BCMS Boys Basketball Honors Players at Banquet

 Butler County Middle School Boys Basketball held their annual banquet on Sunday, February 26th 2017 to honor this past season’s team. In front of a large crowd, players were presented with their awards for a job well done over the season.
“We would like thank these young men for a great season, one of the most fun that I have been a part of,” explained Coach Dustin Barnett. “It has been an honor to coach this season and to see these young men grow and improve throughout the year.”

BCHS Swim Team

Butler County High School Girls Swim Team participated in KHSAA Region 2 Championships for the first time on February 10th & 11th.   This year's team consists of three young ladies representing Butler County, sophomore, Alyssa Swift and seventh graders, Hannah Winchel and Mattie Smith.  Due to there being no indoor pool in Butler County these three swimmers travel to Bowling Green several days a week in order to practice. Alyssa practices with RACE Aquatics and Hannah and Mattie both practice with SKY Swimming (Southern Kentucky Swimming).
