BC Bassmasters tackle Lake Malone

 Dinky Johnson and Derek Goodall taking 1st place with 16.91 lbs

Butler County Bassmasters held their third open tournament for the 2017 season at the Lake Malone Open sponsored by Beech Tree News on Friday, July the 21st. The fish have moved out to their summer haunts in deep water.  Lake Malone is one of the premier big bass fisheries in the area, and it proved it again Friday night with multiple fish over 5 lbs being weighed in. The tournament had a three bass limit, a deviation from the usual five fish limit.

TNL 02 takes 3rd place in U14 USFA World Series

Several softball players from Butler County are playing on traveling teams this summer. Hannah Chaney's travel ball team, TNL 02, went to Panama City Beach, Florida, July 9-15, for the 2017 USFA World Series.
The team went 8-2 in the week and placed 3rd out of 36 14U A/B teams. Kailee Miller and Courtney Peyton both had Grand Slams. Hannah Chaney and Seana Leibfried each had a homer.
TNL 02's season record is 24-2.

MES Archery finish 7th in World Tournament

Morgantown Elementary Archery team recently placed 7th in the World Tournament in Orlando, Florida.  The team scored 3150, with 108 tens, and finished 7th out of 40 teams in the bullseye competition. They also finished 7th out of 15 teams in the 3D Challenge with a score of 1552, with 50 tens. Congratulations to all the archers and coaches.

Kentucky Beast 08’ finished as Runner Up in Division 8U 2017 USFA World Series

The Kentucky Beast 08’, girls fast pitch softball team out of Bowling Green, Kentucky traveled to Panama City Beach, Florida to play in the 2017 USFA (The United States Fast Pitch Softball Association) Mizuno World Series tournament.
Sixteen teams in Division 8U participated in the double elimination tournament the week of July 17-22. Teams from Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, and Kentucky battled for the 8U National Championship.

The arrival of the new Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources provides a comforting reassurance that summer is marching closer to fall. The free guide ships to outlets that sell licenses and permits, but it also can be viewed and downloaded from Kentucky Fish and Wildlife’s website at fw.ky.gov.

BCHS Football Practice Begins for 2017 Season

 BCHS 2017 varsity Football practice officially began July 10th. Daily workouts  are  from 8-11am daily Monday through Friday.  All BCHS freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are expected to attend.  July workouts are limited to shorts, shirts, and helmets. By KHSAA bylaws full gear contact is not allowed until  August 1st. 

 Listed below is a schedule of BCHS passing league events. 

 Mon. July 10……. 8-11am workouts @ Fieldhouse/ Practice Field 

Tues.  July 18……. Passing League 7 on 7 @ Bowling Green HS  4pm

Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Use the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Website to Find a Place to Fish

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 13, 2017) – Two employees of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources recently used the department’s website at www.fw.ky.gov to glean information on catching saugeye.
They used the 5-foot contour maps on the “Find a Place to Fish” to study the bottom of Guist Creek Lake in Shelby County and determine a place to fish. They later fished those areas and caught their first saugeye.

Butler County Bassmasters hit Barren River Lake

Butler County Bassmasters held their fifth regular season points tournament for the 2017 season at Barren River Lake Friday night, July the 7th. The fish have moved out to their summer haunts in deep water.  The strong storms that moved into the area made the last 2 hours of the tournament quite difficult.  Barren River Lake usually puts up excellent numbers of fish, and it didn’t disappoint Friday night. The lake conditions were right with 49 fish being brought to the weigh scale for a total weight of 110.94 pounds for the tournament.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission Proposes New Fishing Regulations for 2018

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 7, 2017) — The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission proposed several new fishing regulations at a special called meeting today.

The commission recommends all hunting, fishing and boating regulations for approval by the General Assembly and approves all expenditures by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. All recommendations must be approved by legislators before they become law.

If approved by legislators, fisheries regulations proposed at the meeting would take effect March 1, 2018.
