SOFTBALL: Bears beat Grayson, McLean; fall to Carlisle & Marshall

The Butler County Bears varsity squad is off to a .500 start after four games with wins over Grayson County and McLean County and losses to Carlisle County and Marshall County.

The highlight of the week was a 4-3 come-from-behind victory against 12th District rival Grayson County at Morgantown on Thursday, March 23.  A 7th inning walk-off single by Hannah Chaney drove home two runs - Dixie Garnier and Amber Thacker - who both singled to reach base.  The runs gave the Bears the 4-3 district victory.

Grayson County captured the lead in the first inning but the Bears tied the game at 2-2 on a Chaney two-run homer in the third inning.

Senior pitcher Zoie Pendley earned the win.  She threw seven innings, allowing three runs, seven hits, striking out two, and walking none.  Lauren Decker took the loss for Grayson County.

Butler County collected eight hits as Amber Thacker, Hannah Chaney, and Maddie McKinney each managed two hits apiece to lead Butler County.
