2nd Annual BtN/WLBQ Christmas Classic to tip Monday

Holiday basketball is alive and well in Butler County as the 2nd Annual BtN/WLBQ Christmas Classic is set for Monday, December 19 and Tuesday, December 20, in Morgantown.  

Beech Tree News and WLBQ-The New Q 101.5 partnered last year with the Butler County Boys' basketball program to bring a traditional Christmas tournament back to Butler County.  That event was a huge success and a the partnership continues this year with the 2016 BtN/WLBQ Christmas Classic.

Lady Bears out of the gate fast with three wins opening week

A 50-38 road win on Monday, November 28, officially kicked off a solid week of basketball for the Butler County Lady Bears. Butler County followed up that victory with another one on Tuesday - this time a 55-47 home win against Owensboro.  The lone loss of the week was a 54-51 setback at Russellville.

Emmick, Henderson honored with coach & player-of-the-year awards

Butler County football quarterback standout Rex Henderson won Class 2A, District 2 Player of the Year.  Butler County head football coach Ryan Emmick won Class 2A, District 2 Coach of the Year.

Bears drop opener; rebound to defeat Breck and Thomas Nelson

The Butler County Bears dropped their season opener on Monday of last week but came back strong to pick up wins against Breckinridge County and Thomas Nelson.  The Bears fell 83-71 to Paducah Tilghman, defeated  Third Region foe Breckinridge County 88-81, and routed Thomas Nelson 66-43.

BCMS Cheer advances to state competition

 

Congratulations to the BCMS Cheerleaders.  The cheer squad won regionals and qualified for state competition, which is scheduled for December 17th at All Tech Arena at Horse Park in Lexington, KY.  BCMS Cheer is coached by Amy Smith-Thomas.

SEASON PREVIEW: Bears' goals include district championship and regional run in 2016-17

For Butler County Bears' head basketball coach Calvin Dockery, the goals are clear-cut:  Continue to make progress, win a district championship, and make a run in the region.  Butler County, 12-15 last season, has clearly made steps in that direction, winning the 12th District in three of the past four seasons.

SEASON PREVIEW: Lady Bears bring core of experience to 2016-17 season

For the Butler County Lady Bears' basketball team, a veteran squad is hoping to improve on a 9-16 campaign last year.  The Lady Bears season gets underway tonight on the road at Hancock County.  Head coach Brian Bivens, now in his third year at the helm of the program, is hoping the 2016-17 season will be the "next step" in the development of the Lady Bears' basketball program.

BCHS/BCMS Archery Teams kick off season.

Butler County High School and Butler County Middle School Archery Teams traveled to Bristow in Bowling Green on Saturday to kick off the start of their archery season. BCMS Team #1 scoring a 3114 and Team #2 scoring  2891 winning both first and third place in the middle school division. BCHS came home with several trophies and a total score of 3285.

MES Archery

Morgantown Elementary School Archery Team traveled to Bristow in Bowling Green on Saturday to kick off the start of their archery season. MES dominated the 10 meter tournament with Team #1 scoring a 3163 and Team #2 scoring a 2807 winning both first and second place in elementary division.

Drake's Farm Service Hunter's Night Out

The 20th Annual Drake's Farm Service Hunter's Night Out was a huge success.  Over 500 people attended the event.  Stan's Famous Chili delighted the crowd as well as several great in-store deals. Entertainment and door prizes put the final touches on the evening.
