Kentucky Afield Outdoors: February a Trophy Fish Month for the Intrepid

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 26, 2017) – It seems to Kentuckians that someone accidentally dropped the sun down a storm drain about three weeks ago and it hasn’t been found yet.

Day after day desolate gray skies discharged rain every few hours. Although it has been warmer than usual, this January has been a long slog.

February is the month tinges of hope arrive back in many anglers’ souls.

MES Patriot Archery Team Brings Home Another Win

Morgantown Elementary School Patriot Archers travelled to Olmstead, KY on January 21st to compete in the Olmstead Archery Rams Challenge and returned with a win.  MES came in 1st place with a team score of 3098 and several students came home with hardware:

Bears' Den Tennis Class - Top Performers

The week of January 16th saw the conclusion of the second nine weeks of Bears' Den.  Among the many classes at Bears' Den was tennis class, held on Wednesdays during the second session.  Although the class has been offered to the youthful participants of Bears' Den for several years now, instructor Clint Dockery took the course in a different direction this session - opting to put on a points race for the participants.  The premise for the points' race was simple.  Students could obtain points weekly through

Belmont Hawks & Lady Hawks Class" A" State Champions

On Thursday, January 19th the Belmont Christian Academy Hawks and Lady Hawks traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the inaugural KCSAA Junior Varsity State Tournament. It proved to be a hugely successful trip as both the Hawks basketball team, as well as the Lady Hawks volleyball team, would bring home a "Class A" State Championship. Zack Phelps, Walter Givens, Trevor Dockery, Lillian Gidcumb, Hannah Whittinghill, and Autumn Gidcumb were named to their respective All-Tournament Teams.

Bears roll off three straight wins before falling to Patriots

 

The Butler County boys' basketball team returned to the winning column last week, rattling off three consecutive wins before falling on the road to Allen County-Scottsville.  During that span, the Bears defeated Frederick Fraize, 12th District rival Trinity (Whitesville), and McLean County - a Third Region opponent.

Morgantown Elementary Results from the Chandlers Tournament

Morgantown Elementary Archery Team traveled to Logan County to Chandler's Elementary.  MES took top honors with the following results:

1st place team with a score of 3093

 10 Meter Results:

Female- 1st place Izzy Hatcher

Male- 1st place Braxton Tomes, 5th place Landis Merritt, 6th place Brayden Barks, 8th place Kaleb Clark

 10-15 Meter Results:

4th grade female-  1st place Ryleigh White, 4th place Addison Henderson

BCYBA Youth Baseball Registration Open Now!

Butler County Youth Baseball Association is ready to kick off another season and welcome back players to the ball fields.  This will be BCYBA’s second year playing under Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Organization and the league organizers would like to build on the very successful inaugural year!

Archery Tournament

The Morgantown Elementary Patriots Classic was the first tournament open to schools outside of the county. There were a total of 24 elementary, middle and high schools and 650 archers registered for the tournament.
Schools traveled from Todd, Allen, Warren, Logan and Muhlenberg Counties. The tournament lasted 2 days beginning at 5:00 Friday afternoon and ended Saturday evening at 8:30. Overall the tournament ran smoothly and was considered a huge success.

BCMS Bears 8th Grade Recognition

The Butler County Middle School boys' basketball team and cheerleaders held their 8th grade recognition night on Thursday, January 12. The ceremony took place in between the 7th and 8th grade game.  School officials recognized each 8th grade player and cheerleader, as well as their parents, for their contributions to their respective middle school programs.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission Proposes Modifications to Elk Hunting Season at Special Called Meeting

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 13, 2016) — The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission took another step toward its goal of increasing Kentucky’s elk population at a faster rate by proposing hunting season modifications and setting season dates at its Jan. 6 special-called meeting.

The commission recommends all hunting, fishing and boating regulations for approval by the General Assembly and approves all expenditures by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. All recommendations must be approved by legislators before they become law.
