White signs to play college softball at Midway University

Belmont 2017 Volleyball Invitational Tournament

Saturday, Jan 7th, Belmont Lady Hawks hosted their 2017 Volleyball Invitational Tournament with Valor Christian Academy, Sugar Grove Christian Academy, and Faith Homeschool joining Belmont Christian Academy in the tournament.  The first round saw Belmont defeat Valor and Faith defeat Sugar Grove.  In the second round Sugar Grove defeated Valor in a close game to take third place.  Belmont battled Faith, but came up a little short.  Belmont came in second place with Faith claiming first.  Hannah Whittinghill and Autumn Gidcumb, from Belmont, were named to the All-Tournament team.  Belmont La

Bears fall to Hornets, Wildcats

The holiday break and inclement weather have slowed the pace of games for the Butler County Bears as of late, having only played a couple of games over the past two weeks.  Butler County dropped a double-overtime 59-56 decision on December 30 at Hancock County and fell 75-68 on January 3 at home against Edmonson County.

Harbaugh selected as a 2016 Baseball Youth 10U All-American

Ryder Harbaugh was selected as a 2016 Baseball Youth 10U All-American. Ryder played in the Baseball Youth All-American Games powered by Easton from December 19-21 at the New Seminole County Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. The Games included approximately 300 youth from thirty-five states and international players from as far away as the Dominican Republic and Germany.

Lady Bears drop games to McLean, Edmonson

The Butler County Lady Bears dropped a pair of home games over the past week to solid Third Region foes.  Butler County fell 45-34 to McLean County on Friday, December 30 and to district rival Edmonson County 41-24 on Tuesday, January 3.

Lady Bears go 1-2 at Marshall County Tournament

The Butler County Lady Bears took the middle game of a three game set last week in the Lady Marshal Holiday Classic at Marshall County.  Butler County defeated Paducah Tilghman 54-36 on Tuesday, fell 58-29 to Shelbyville Central (TN) on Monday, and lost 67-39 to Casey County on Wednesday to conclude tournament play.  

 A difficult 16-4 first quarter deficit proved too much to overcome against a good Shelbyville Central team in the Lady Bears' opening game.  Trailing 30-10 at the half, the Lady Bears weren't able to mount a comeback, losing 58-29.

Bears win one, lose one in BtN/WLBQ Christmas Classic

The Butler County Bears played .500 ball last week in the 2nd Annual BtN/WLBQ Christmas Classic.  Butler County fell 63-48 in its Monday opener against Buckhorn, while picking up an 82-45 win over Hickman County on Tuesday.  

 

Butler County trailed 34-26 at the half against Buckhorn and wasn't able to come back in second half, losing the third quarter 15-12 and the fourth quarter 14-10.

Busy December moves Lady Bears to 6-3 record on the season

The Butler County Lady Bears' basketball team has spent a lot of time of the court the first half of December en route to a 6-3 record so far this season.  Butler County reeled off three consecutive wins early in the month with a 57-54 decision at Todd County Central (December 5), a 45-31 win at Warren East (December 6), and a 41-28 victory over Thomas Nelson (December 10).  The Lady Bears fell 72-41 at home to Greenwood on December 12; lost 41-35 at Warren Central; and picked up a lopsided 59-29 win at Ohio County on December 16.

Tough stretch for Bears with string of losses

Teams typically go through tough stretches.  It seems that time is now for Butler County as the Bears dropped games last week to Nelson County (65-58), Madisonville-North Hopkins (91-71), Daviess County (71-65), and Ohio County (55-40).  Butler County (2-5) will be hoping to rebound this coming week as play begins in the 2016 BtN/WLBQ Christmas Classic.

On December 6, the Bears dropped a 65-58 decision at Nelson County.  A tight game at the half, Nelson County used an 18-10 third quarter scoring advantage to secure the win.
