MORGANTOWN - Butler County nearly overcame a double digit deficit to win over the weekend. However, visiting Owensboro Catholic managed to edge the Bears 50-48 in a boys' high school basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 18. 

Butler County suffered its first loss in the 2021-22 boys' high school basketball season, slipping to 5-1. 

Determined Owensboro Catholic won for the third time in four games, improving to 3-5. 

The 2021-2022 Butler County Middle School Boys Basketball seasons are underway and in full swing. This year’s 8th grade team members include Curtis Murphy, Memphis Basham, Elijah Ferrell, Will Amos, Chance Flener, Caleb Broesamle, Maddox Moore, Jett Johnson, Christian Johnson, and Nicolas Francisco.

Bears beat Breckinridge County, 74-56

MORGANTOWN - Remaining unbeaten early in the 2021-22 boys' high school basketball season, Butler County pulled away to defeat visiting Breckinridge County 74-56 on Monday, Dec. 13. 

With the win, Butler County moved to 5-0. 

Butler County led 38-26 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half. The Bears led 57-45 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Butler County tops Todd County Central, 47-43

MORGANTOWN - Butler County pushed past visiting Todd County Central 47-43 in a girls' high school basketball game on Monday, Dec. 13.

Longtime rivals, Butler County and Todd County Central battled back and forth throughout the prep hoops matchup.

The Lady Bears led 19-16 at halftime. Butler County added to its advantage shortly after the intermission period to lead 33-24 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

OWENSBORO - Visiting Butler County pulled away to defeat Daviess County 63-49 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 7. 

Butler County, which moved to 3-0 after notching the win, shot 47.5 percent (19-of-40) from the field. The Bears shot 40 percent (six-of-15) from three-point range. 

A contender for the 12th Region boys' basketball championship, Butler County shot 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the free throw line in the winning effort. 

BARDSTOWN - Visiting Butler County pulled away to beat Bethlehem 73-40 in a boys' high school basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 4. 

After claiming the win, Butler County moved to 2-0.

Bethlehem dropped to 1-2 following the loss. 

Butler County moved ahead early, separating itself from Bethlehem. The Bears forced Bethlehem to play from behind throughout the boys' high school basketball matchup.

BOWLING GREEN - Remaining in the win column on the road, Butler County pulled away to beat Warren East 64-39 in a girls' high school basketball game on Monday, Dec. 6.

After claiming the win, Butler County moved to 2-0.

Warren East dropped to 2-3 following the loss. 

Moving ahead early, Butler County led 20-8 in the first quarter. 

Butler County led 32-24 at halftime and managed to extend its lead back out after the intermission period.

MORGANTOWN – Butler County is scheduled to visit longtime rival Logan County for its opener in the 2021-22 girls' high school basketball season on Friday, Dec. 3.

The Lady Bears finished runner-up to Grayson County in the 2020-21 12th District Girls'

MORGANTOWN – Determined Butler County beat visiting Russellville 70-59 in a boys' high school basketball season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 30. 

The Bears separated themselves from the Panthers in the first half. Butler County, under the direction of head coach Calvin Dockery, led 39-23 at halftime. 

Remaining in control after the intermission period, Butler County led 51-37 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

The Bears shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the field in the winning effort. Host Butler County shot 40 percent (8-of-20) from three-point range.

Butler County is ranked fifth in The Cats' Pause 2021-22 Kentucky Basketball Yearbook Preseason 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Rankings.

 The Lady Bears are ranked ahead of Ohio County, Owensboro, Daviess County, Whitesville Trinity and Hancock County. 

Butler County is listed behind Apollo, Meade County, Breckinridge County and top-ranked Owensboro Catholic. 

Apollo is the reigning 3rd Region girls' basketball champion.
