Bears roll past Raiders, 84-61

WHITESVILLE — Butler County rolled past homestanding Whitesville Trinity 84-61 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Monday, Jan. 31. 

Moving ahead early, Butler County outscored Whitesville Trinity 19-14 in the first quarter.

The Bears led 41-34 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half. Butler County extended its lead after the intermission period. The Bears led 62-45 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Butler County beats Dawson Springs for 11th straight win

DAWSON SPRINGS - Visiting Butler County pulled away to beat Dawson Springs 72-39 in a girls' high school basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 29, registering its 11th straight win.

Following the win, Butler County improved to 17-1, 

Butler County shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field in the victory. The Lady Bears shot 41.7 percent (five-of-12) from three-point range.

Bears beat Whitesville Trinity for district win, 80-70

MORGANTOWN - Butler County shook off a slow start to beat visiting Whitesville Trinity 80-70 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 28.

After registering the win, Butler County improved to 12-6 overall and 1-2 in the 12th District.

Whitesville Trinity dropped to 9-9 overall and 2-1 in the 12th District following the loss. 

Taking a lead early, Whitesville Trinity outscored Butler County 20-16 in the first quarter.

Butler County outlasts Metcalfe County in overtime, 70-64

MORGANTOWN — Butler County outlasted visiting Metcalfe County 70-64 in overtime in a girls' high school basketball game on Monday, Jan. 24.

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 15-1.

Metcalfe County dropped to 10-9 after suffering the loss. 

Butler County led 37-28 at halftime. The Lady Bears led 44-42 at the conclusion of the third quarter before regulation ended with the two girls' high school basketball teams tied 60-60.

Bears fall to Muhlenberg County in OT

GREENVILLE — Butler County fell short on the road as Muhlenberg County held on to win 54-53 in overtime on Tuesday, Jan. 25. 

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 11-6.

Butler County started strong, doubling up Muhlenberg County 14-7 in the first quarter. The Bears led 27-18 at halftime and carried momentum out of the break.

Lady Bears notch district win over Edmonson County 

MORGANTOWN - Butler County pulled away to beat visiting Edmonson County 48-37 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 22. 

Following the win, Butler County improved to 14-1 overall and 2-0 in the 12th District.

Edmonson County dropped to 6-12 overall and 1-2 in the 12th District after suffering the loss.

Lady Bears knock off Hancock County, 61-31

HAWESVILLE - Visiting Butler County knocked off Hancock County 61-31 in a girls' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 18. 

Butler County claimed its seventh straight win. The win allowed Butler County to improve to 13-1. 

Butler County shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from the field in the victory. The Lady Bears connected on 13 of 29 free throw attempts.

Lady Bears pull away to beat Grayson County, 45-20

LEITCHFIELD - Visiting Butler County pulled away to beat Grayson County 45-20 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 14.

Butler County improved to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in the 12th District after registering the win. 

After absorbing the loss, Grayson County dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the 12th District.

Butler County started strong, outscoring Grayson County 15-5 in the first quarter.

Sharp's game-winning shot lifts Cougars over Butler County

LEITCHFIELD - Visiting Butler County came up short as Grayson County held on to win 67-65 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 14. 

Butler County dropped to 11-4 overall and 0-1 in the 12th District following the loss. 

With the win, Grayson County improved to 9-7 overall and 2-0 in the 12th District. 

Grayson County led at the conclusion of each quarter, edging the Bears 15-14 in the opening period.
