Butler County ranked first in 3rd Region Girls' Basketball RPI Rankings

MORGANTOWN - Butler County is ranked first in the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Rankings.

Through its initial 11 games in the 2021-22 girls' high school basketball season, Butler County is 10-1.

Butler County's 3rd Region-leading RPI is .66751.

Bears level Logan County, 71-29

MORGANTOWN - Butler County pulled away to beat visiting Logan County 71-29 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 11. 

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 11-3.

Remaining winless, Logan County dropped to 0-12. 

Butler County shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the field. The Bears shot 40 percent (10-of-25) from three-point range.

Butler County shot 83.3 percent (five-of-six) from the free throw line.

Students encouraged to apply for 2022 Kentucky Ag Athletes of the Year

LEXINGTON - Kentucky student-athletes who are involved in agriculture are invited to apply for one of six scholarships and recognition as a 2022 Kentucky Ag Athlete of the Year.

The program is a partnership of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA).

Butler County knocks off Russellville, 44-33

RUSSELLVILLE - Visiting Butler County knocked off Russellville 44-33 in a girls' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 10-1.

Butler County led 7-4 at the conclusion of the opening quarter. However, Russellville battled back to lead 20-18 at halftime.

Moving out in front after the intermission period, Butler County led 31-29 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Bears top Apollo, 64-61

OWENSBORO - Winning on the road, Butler County topped 3rd Region rival Apollo 64-61 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Butler County improved to 10-3 after recording the win.

Longtime rivals, Butler County and Apollo battled in a non-district matchup.

The Bears carried a lead out of each quarter during the non-district matchup.

Lady Bears beat Muhlenberg County, 60-34

MORGANTOWN - Butler County pulled away to beat visiting 3rd Region rival Muhlenberg County 60-34 in a girls' high school basketball game on Monday, Jan. 3.

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 9-1.

Muhlenberg County dropped to 4-7 after suffering the loss. 

Butler County shot 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the field. The Lady Bears connected on two of eight three-point field goal attempts.

Bears beat Carlisle County, 54-39

OWENSBORO - Butler County defeated Carlisle County 54-39 in the opening round of the Independence Bank Classic at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Wednesday, Dec. 29. 

The Bears connected on 20 of 63 field goal attempts in the victory.

Lawson Rice scored 17 points to lead Butler County to the win. Accompanying Rice in double figures for the Bears, Isaac Dockery netted 12 points.

Bears drop back-to-back games in Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic

GATLINBURG - Butler County dropped back-to-back games in the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School-hosted Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic Tuesday, Dec. 21-Wednesday, Dec. 22.

After knocking off the host team in the opening round of the annual boys' high school basketball holiday tournament, Butler County lost to in-state opponent Bullitt Central and Landrum, a team out of South Carolina.

Lady Bears split two games in Owensboro

OWENSBORO - The Butler County Lady Bears split a pair of games in the Independence Bank Kentucky-Indiana Classic, a girls' high school basketball holiday event held at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Butler County pulled away to beat Muhlenberg County 51-40 in the opening round of the  Independence Bank Kentucky-Indiana Classic at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Monday, Dec. 20.

Bears top Gatlinburg-Pittman, 66-63

GATLINBURG, Tenn. - Determined Butler County topped host Gatlinburg-Pittman 66-63 in the opening round of the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic on Monday, Dec. 20.

Following the win, Butler County improved to 6-1. 

Butler County shot 44.6 percent (29-of-65) from the field. The Bears connected on three of 16 three-point field goal attempts. 

Butler County, which featured three scorers in double figures, shot 55.6 percent (five-of-nine) from the free throw line.
