Butler County High School Swim had a great day at KHSAA Region 2 Championships.

The Girls' team finished 6th overall in the region (out of 17 teams). The Girls' team consists of Mattie Smith, Lydia Wells, Briley Webster, and Emma Winchel.

Bears and Lady Bears defeat Edmonson County Wildcats

Clark lifts Lady Bears over Edmonson County, 44-42 

BROWNSVILLE — Taylin Clark hit the game-winning shot to lift Butler County over Edmonson County 44-42 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Feb. 11.

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the 12th District. 

Clark scored the 1,000th point of her career during the district matchup.

Lady Bears beat University Heights, 56-34

MORGANTOWN — Butler County pulled away to beat visiting University Heights 56-34 in a girls' high school basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 12. 

Following the win, Butler County improved to 22-2.

Butler County forced University Heights (Region 2) to play from behind during the prep hoops matchup, gradually pulling away to win convincingly. 

Three Butler County players reached double figures in scoring.

Taylin Clark led Butler County to the win, scoring 15 points.

Volleyball: Gidcumb signs with Brescia

MORGANTOWN- Butler County senior volleyball player Autumn Gidcumb is headed to the next level.

A leader for Butler County during her prep career, Gidcumb has signed with the Brescia University volleyball program.

Gidcumb was a standout for Butler County throughout the 2021 high school volleyball season. As a senior, Gidcumb recorded 177 kills, 14 assists, 232 digs and 62 service aces for the Bears. Gidcumb led the Bears in kills and service aces in the 2021 high school volleyball season. She holds seven school records.

Bears fall to Ohio County

HARTFORD — Butler County suffered its second straight loss as Ohio County prevailed 80-63 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 14-9.

Ohio County improved to 16-6 after notching the win. 

Homestanding Ohio County shot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the field. The Eagles shot 59.3 percent (16-of-27) from three-point range.

Lady Bears outlast South Warren in overtime for 20th win

MORGANTOWN — Butler County outlasted South Warren 56-55 in overtime to notch its 20th win in the 2021-22 girls' high school basketball season on Tuesday, Feb. 8. 

The Lady Bears improved to 20-2 after posting the win.

Butler County recorded 20 wins for the first time since the 2000-01 girls' high school basketball season.

BCHS set to host 12th District Basketball Tournament

Butler Co. High School will host the 2022, 12th District Girls/ Boys District Basketball tournament on the dates of Feb. 21,22,24,25. This begins the post season play for every girls & boys  high school basketball team across the state. 

The 12th District consists of Butler Co. HS, Edmonson Co. HS, Grayson Co. HS and Whitesville Trinity HS. The 12th district realignment was in 2005/06 season, marking this, the 17th year of this four team district makeup. The 12th District is in Region 3.

Bears drop home game to Christian County

MORGANTOWN — Butler County was limited offensively during the first half as Christian County held on to win 53-47 in a boys' high school basketball game on Monday, Feb. 7. 

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 14-8. 

Moving ahead early, Christian County outscored Butler County 13-10 in the first quarter. Stretching its lead prior to the intermission period, Christian County doubled up the Bears 16-8 in the second period to lead 29-18 at halftime.

Bears and Lady Bears pull district win against Grayson County

Lady Bears pull away to beat Grayson County, 54-38

MORGANTOWN — Butler County pulled away to beat visiting Grayson County 54-38 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 5. 

The Lady Bears, who finished the regular season first in the 12th District, returned to the win column after dropping a game to Franklin-Simpson four days earlier.

After claiming the win, Butler County improved to 19-2 overall and 5-0 in the 12th District.

Bears drop game to Franklin-Simpson 

FRANKLIN — Visiting Butler County slipped back into the loss column as Franklin-Simpson prevailed 60-52 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Butler county suffered the setback after notching back-to-back wins. 

The Bears led 14-12 at the conclusion of the first quarter but faltered. Franklin-Simpson battled back to lead 30-23 at halftime.
