Johnson Picks Up Win for EKU

Freshman Caleb Johnson tossed 6-plus strong innings to lead the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team to an 8-5 win over preseason Ohio Valley Conference favorite Tennessee Tech in the series finale on Sunday.

Johnson (1-0), making his second collegiate start, turned in his first career quality start. He allowed one run on five hits in six and two-thirds innings. Johnson walked one and struck out one.

On February 21st, Eastern Kentucky stayed close to No. 5 South Carolina, but lost 4-0 on Friday in the opener of the three-game series.

Jr. Pro Basketball Wraps Up Year

North Butler's 1st and 2nd Grade Team

 Another year of Jr. Pro Basketball is in the books.  1st and 2nd grade Jr. Pro finished at NBES last weekend with an awards presentation at the end of their game. 

3rd through 6th grade teams finished their season with a single elimination tournament this past weekend at MES.  After several rounds of play and some good competition, the championship games were set.

The Butler County Jr. Pro Basketball program has finished another great year.  Teams from North Butler Elementary and Morgantown Elementary competed from kindergarten thru sixth grade. Cody Donaldson, Jr. Pro coordinator, was pleased with this years’ competitive play and improvement shown by each player. Meet the teams....

Bears: Back to Back District Titles

The gym was full of fans clad in the school colors of Butler County High School and Grayson County High School on Friday night for the 12th District Tournament Championship Game. BCHS won their way to the championship game with a victory over Edmonson County on Tuesday night. Grayson County earned their title game berth by beating Whitesville Trinity High School in opening round play on Tuesday. BCHS and GCHS split their regular season games, with each team winning on their home court.

BEARS 12th DISTRICT CHAMPS

 The Butler County Bears defeated Grayson County on Friday night to capture the 12th District Championship for the second year in a row.  The gym was packed, the Bear Cave and Pep Band did a great job, and Coach Calvin Dockery and the Bears got the job done winning 75-63.  Following the game several Bears were honored for 12th district excellence. Rebecca Daugherty and Laura Baseheart were recognized for All District cheerleading honors. Zak Burden and Zeke Woodcock received 12th District All Season recognition.

Bears eye back-to-back district titles; would be first time since 1959-60, 1960-61 seasons

The Butler County High School Bears' basketball team is set to defend its 2013 12th District title tonight against Grayson County.  If the Bears are successful, it would be the first back-to-back district championships since the 1959-60 and 1960-61 seasons.  Regardless of tonight's outcome, Butler County will be going to the Third Region Tournament next week at the Owensboro Sportscenter.  It will be the third straight regional appearance for the boys' team.  The last time a BCHS boys' team made three consecutive regional tournaments were the seasons between 1961 and 1964.

40th Anniversary (1973-74) BCHS Boys' Basketball Team

The BCHS Boys basketball (1973-74) team, to many will to date be called the greatest team in school history. On the 40th anniversary it only fitting that we look back and share with those too young to remember.
        The 1973-74 BCHS Boys basketball season completed a perfect 25-0 regular season record.  During that run of twenty-five wins, during the regular season the Bears had signature wins over Lou. Manual, Warren Central, Hopkinsville, Lou. Doss, Central City, Franklin Simpson, and Apollo.

12th District Boys Basketball History 2005 to Present

The KHSAA realigned high school basketball districts most recently dating back to the 2005-06 season. The new alignment placed the following four schools in the 12th district/ Region 3 for both Boys/Girls Basketball:  Butler Co., Edmonson Co., Grayson Co., and Whitesville Trinity.
 Since the 2005-06 alignment going into this Friday night’s championship Boys game the Grayson Co. Cougars are (7-1) in the district finals; winning seven district titles; while the Bears  are (1-2) making the district finals in 2006, 2012, and 2013.

Important Dates for BC Little League

Last sign-up will be Saturday, March 1st at Morgantown Elementary School Gym from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Rookie League try-outs will be on Tuesday, March 4th at BCHS indoor field from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you sign-up that night, you will be charged a $15.00 late fee.

Minor and Major League try-outs will be on Thursday, March 3rd at BCHS indoor field from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you sign-up that night, you will be charged a $15.00 late fee.
