Bears claim District 12 championship with victory over Trinity (Whitesville)

The Butler County High School Bears Baseball team defeated Trinity (Whitesville) 6-3 Friday at BCHS to claim the District 12 Tournament title.

The Butler County Bears Baseball team captured the 12th District Championship with a 6-3 victory against Trinity (Whitesville) Friday afternoon at BCHS. 

 It was the first district title for second-year head coach Ben Grey, and an unlikely feat considering the team’s lower seeding in the tournament.

Bears Track and Field finish 2nd at McLean All-Comers

Butler County will continue its season at WKU Raider Run on Saturday, May 7th.

The Butler County Track and Field Team continued their season on Thursday, April 28th at McLean County, and were able to bring home 2nd place overall. The Bears won many of the track events throughout the night, competing against several school in the area at the McLean All-Comers event. The teams included McLean, Muhlenburg, Hancock, and Ohio Counties. “This is one of the single best meets of the season for us so far.” Explained Coach Lindsey.

Embry speaks at April Chamber Luncheon

Morgantown mayor Billy Phelps presents state senator CB Embry Jr. with an honorary plaque.

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its April luncheon on Thursday. State senator CB Embry Jr. was the guest speaker for the event.

"We are very lucky regionally and statewide to have a state senator that lives two blocks from city hall," Mayor Billy Phelps said.

Embry, a Republican, has been a member of the state senate since 2015 and was the first native of Butler County to be elected in 60 years. He was in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2002-2014.

Sina Findley

Sina Findley, 98 of Morgantown, Ky. passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at her residence. Sina was born on Tuesday, October 2, 1917, in Butler County Kentucky to the late Noah and Anthany Renfrow Beasley and wife of the late Wavie Findley. She was a homemaker and was the oldest member of Oak Ridge General Baptist Church and attended Sunday School for 32 consecutive years without missing a Sunday.

McDonald's celebrates Grand Reopening

McDonald's of Morgantown (located at 1174 S Main Street) celebrates a Grand Reopening on Saturday, April 23.

Smiles were plentiful this past weekend as McDonald's of Morgantown celebrated a Grand Reopening on Saturday, April 23.  The rennovation has been in the works for awhile and come on the heels of a U.S. 231 road project in front of the store.  Saturday's event featured company leaders, city and school leaders, and officials with the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce. 

McDonald's owner Vince Tanner kicked off the festivities and spoke of the changes that have taken place at McDonald's and his company's commitment to Morgantown.

Cindy McDaniel, age 52, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 in Warren County, Kentucky.

Butler County Middle School STLP takes home awards at state competition

Hezekiah Pendley won 2nd place for Storytelling.

STLP students from Butler County Middle School attended the State Championship in Lexington on Friday.

 Winners included:

·       Hezekiah Pendley won 2nd place for Storytelling. 
·       Olivia Austin, Jessica Raeuchle, and Raeleigh Parrish placed in the top 50 for their Animal Abuse Awareness Showcase Project.
