Lady Bears continues to show improvement.

Tuesday, September 26th marked the next to last game of the season against an opponent the Lady Bears were excited to play. In the previous outing against Breckinridge County the Lady Bears fell short in a very close match. On Tuesday there was more of the same intensity to come from both teams. The game started later than usual because of scheduling conflicts. Once the game started around seven o’clock p.m. Breckenridge wasted no time getting their first goal of the night. This happened with about six minutes off the clock. The score remained the same through half-time.

The Lady Bears were not giving up.

Butler County Bassmasters Lake Malone Tournament Results

Danny Cardwell and Chris Phelps

Butler County Bassmasters held their eighth and final team trail points tournament for the 2016 season at Lake Malone on Saturday, September 24th. It was a gorgeous day on the lake, with highs in the upper 80’s, little wind, and blue skies.  The water was in excellent shape but is beginning to cool.  The thermocline is beginning to diminish and fall turnover will begin soon.  All of this has the fish really getting ready for the turnover, and subsequent fall feed up before winter.

KY Afield Outdoors: Now is Prime Time to Catch Stream Smallmouth Bass on Topwater Lures

Former “Kentucky Afield” television host Tim Farmer holds a fat smallmouth bass caught from central Kentucky’s Elkhorn Creek on a topwater popper lure early last fall. The topwater, or surface, bite for stream smallmouth bass is heading toward its peak over the next few weeks.

Shorter days and yellowing leaves are about the only ways you can tell it is the third week of September. Temperature wise, it feels like August lasted six plus weeks.

“We are 10 degrees behind, water temperature wise, than usual for this time of year,” said David Baker, Central Fisheries District biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “The water is usually cooler by now.”

The Butler County Lady Bears soccer team officially passed the half-way point in the season and are now into the homestretch. As of Monday they had played all district teams other than Meade County. Meade County or Brandenburg if you go by cities is about an hour and a half trip in a bus from BCHS. The bus departed the high school optimistic as usual in hopes of that illusive first win of the season. Meade County girls with a 6 wins and two losses record was a tall order to fill.
