New Coaches: Bivens and Bryant

When Butler County sports get back into action in the late summer there will be two new faces stalking the sidelines as head coaches. Brian Bivens has been hired as the new BCHS girls basketball coach, and JR Bryant will be the new head football coach at Butler County Middle School.

With California Chrome set to chase history in the Belmont Stakes this coming weekend, the stream smallmouth fishing season is in full bloom.
 A late spring following a brutally cold winter caused some hit and miss stream smallmouth fishing this past spring. With the warm winds of June now here, stream smallmouth are settling into their summer patterns with water temperatures stabilizing in the mid 70s.
Years of perfect flow conditions for reproduction bequeathed a quality cohort of smallmouth bass 14 inches and longer in Kentucky streams.

BCHS Boys Basketball Boosters Meeting

There will be an organizational meeting of the BCHS Boys Basketball Booster Club on Monday, June 16th at 6pm in the MES cafeteria. New officers will be elected and fundraisers scheduled for the upcoming school year. All parents of the players are urged to attend whether you are interested in being an officer or not. Stan England-Boys & Girls Club Charity Golf Scramble

The second annual Stan England Classic Golf Tournament for the Boys & Girls Club of Butler County will be held on Thursday, June 5th at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Morgantown.  Tee off is at 9:00am with a shotgun start.

BCHS Softball plans summer camp, tryouts for middle school team

The coaching staff and players of the Butler County  Bears’ softball team will be conducting a softball camp this summer for girls ages 5-12 from June 16-19, 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

BC Softball wraps season with three wins; falls to Grayson in 12th District Tournament

Butler County Softball fell 10-3 to Grayson County in the first round of the 12th District Tournament at Edmonson County.  The loss ends the Bears' season at 19 wins, 17 losses, and one tie.    

Butler County collected eight hits in the loss to Grayson.

Grayson County was sparked by Megan England and Kara Decker, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.

Kassie Jo Phelps took the loss for Butler County. She allowed 10 runs in six innings, walked two and struck out four.

Baseball: Butler County 1 Trinity 5

On Monday night, the Bears traveled to Grayson County for a district tournament matchup with Whitesville Trinity.  The Bears had swept the regular season meetings with Trinity and where in search of a trip to the district championship against Grayson County.  Blake Graham took the mound for the Bears looking to pick up the wing.  Trinity, however, had other ideas.  Trinity jumped on the Bears for two quick runs in the first inning, taking advantage of two errors by the Bears.  Graham battled back and picked up a key strikeout to escape further damage.

2014 Bear Camp

Future BEARS if you are ready to learn new skills and develop your game please attend the BCHS BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP.   This year we will have two sessions.  This will allow us to work and interact with each camper at a higher level.  This camp has a concentration on fundamental development.  We will work on defending, passing, rebounding, dribbling, and shooting.  Our hope is to help campers improve technique, efficiency, and confidence by using various proven drills.   We use many of these drills regularly to help our BCHS Boys Basketba

Bears Baseball

On Monday, the Bears played host to a strong Franklin Simpson team from the 4th region.  The Bears came out battling and led 2-1 going into the 3rd inning.  Franklin rallied to take a 4-3 lead into the 7th inning.  Then the wheels came off defensively for the Bears as the Wildcats plated 9 runs on their way to a 13-3 victory.   Blake Graham pitched an excellent game for the Bears, giving the team an excellent chance to upset the Wildcats.   But the bats were just not strong enough on this night as Cody Casteel and Rex Henderson collected the only 2 base hits for the Bears.

BC Basketball's Zeke Woodcock signs to play college ball at Thomas More

Butler County's Zeke Woodcock has a signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  The signing ceremony was held last Friday, June 9, at the BCHS Athletic Fieldhouse.  Woodcock's signing comes off a stellar career with Butler County.  As a senior, he averaged 18 points per game and 10 rebounds.
