Butler County Track and Field Compete in Region, Advance to State

Butler County will wrap up its season on May 28th as they travel to the State Meet in Lexington, KY.

On Saturday, May 14th the Butler County Track and Field team travelled to Muhlenberg County to compete in Class A Region action. Butler County is part of Region 2A with Caverna, Clinton County, Cumberland County, Frederick Fraize, Glasgow, Hancock County, McLean County, Metcalfe County, Monroe County, Owensboro Catholic, Russellville, Todd County, and Trinity. 

The top two from each of the regions earn an automatic bid the State Meet in Lexington on May, 28th, with each Class getting 10 more spots earned on individual performances. “We have a great opportunity to represent Butler County well at the State Meet this season.” Explained Coach Fuller. 

The Girls’ 4X800m Relay Team earn their automatic bid to State by winning the first event of the day. “We were not expecting to win Region, but we have definitely put in the work and deserve it. We girls have really worked hard over the year to be where we are.” Explained Junior Hannah Perry. “My time for the 800M was not really what I was wanting, but I am happy that I get another opportunity to improve upon it at the State Meet. It have been pushed by some tough competition this year, but have been blessed to make it through this season without injury.” Added Perry. Junior Hannah Perry finished the 800M Run with a 3rd place finish and will compete in State. 

Sophomore Kierra Neighbors had a great day by earning a spot to state in the 100m hurdles, and finishing 3rd in the 300m hurdles. “I am so glad to be going to State, and see the hard work payoff.” Explained Neighbors. 

Sophomore Tyler Smith will compete at State in High Jump with a 3rd place, 5’6” jump in Region. “We have really worked hard with Tyler and improving his technique.” Described Coach Lindsey. “Tyler is loaded with talent and deserves this opportunity to compete at the state level.” 

The Boys’ 4X100m and 4X400 Relay Teams brought home 3rd in Region, and earned a trip to State based on time. 

Senior Nolan Johnson raced to 3rd place in the 3200M Run. 

Senior Jacob Hixenbaugh finished 3rd in the 200M Sprint, and will compete in State based on time. “I am happy for our team, and hope we bring a medal home from Lexington”. Exclaimed Hixenbaugh.
