BCHS Cheerleaders Named Grand Champions, BCMS Claims 1st Place

The Butler County High School and Butler County Middle School Cheerleaders competed in the Snowball Cheer Classic Competition on Saturday at Bowling Green High.  Both squads took first place in their respective division and the BCHS squad was named Grand Champions.

“We won the large squad division and took home the grand champion trophy over all cheer squads,” said Lisa Rhoades, Head Cheer Coach.

Bears, Lady Bears stay undefeated in district play with wins over Trinity

Both the Butler County girls' and boys' basketball teams remained undefeated in 12th District play on Friday night with convincing wins over Whitesville Trinity.  The Lady Bears easily dispatched the Lady Raiders 67-23.  In the second game of the boy-girl doubleheader, the Bears broke open a close game in the second half on their way to a 60-41 win.  Both squads are now 2-0 in district play with games against Grayson County and Edmonson County looming.

Lady Bears Goes 1-2 @Farmers' National Bank Holiday Bash

The Butler County Lady Bears participated in the Farmers’ National Bank Bash at South Warren High School during the Christmas break.  The Lady Bears went 1-2 in the tournament defeating Greenup County and falling to Green County and Russell County.

BCMS in Christmas Torunament @Adairville

The Butler County Middle School eighth grade basketball team kicked off Christmas break by traveling to Adairville on Saturday, December 21st for a Christmas tournament.  The trip proved to be a successful one for the Bears with them coming away with a third place finish.  The Bears first game of the day was against the Lewisburg Rangers.  Several players shined for the Bears.  Patton Allen and Brendan Shanklin dominated the boards, pulling rebound after rebound.  Brennan Grubb was pesky defensively and led the team in steals.  Caleb Beasley was hot from the free throw line where he was 5 f

Mayors make a friendly wager on eve of big basketball rivalry

With one of the nation’s premier basketball rivalries resuming Dec. 28, Mayor Greg Fischer of Louisville and Mayor Jim Gray of Lexington are putting a friendly wager on the line: The winning mayor gets the opportunity to show off his hometown track.

“When the Cards win with their superior team-work, experience and quickness, I will be honored to host Mayor Gray for a day at the races during the spring meet at the world’s most famous racetrack -- Churchill Downs,” Fischer said.

Lady Bears play at South Oldham; Clark named to All-Tournament Team

The Butler County Lady Bears basketball team took to the road last week to play in the Lady Dragons Holiday Invitational at South Oldham High School.

On Friday, December 20, the Lady Bears fell to Clinton County 62-44.  Butler County squared off against host South Oldham on Saturday, losing 46-32.  South Oldham is coached by Christy Higdon, former coach at Butler County High School.  In its final game on Sunday, the Lady Bears fell to a very athletic team from Male HIgh School (Louisville) 75-43.

Busy Week for BCMS Boys' Basketball Team

It has been a busy week full of basketball for the Butler County Middle School basketball team.  It started on Monday night with a road trip to Muhlenberg South and won’t end until Saturday with a Christmas Tournament at Adairville.  The Bears faced off against a talented Muhlenberg South team Monday night.  The Bears were a little nervous about the trip due to the fact when these two teams met earlier in the season the Suns defeated the Bears by double digits.  The Bears came out with force on the Suns court and stayed within 4 points of them the entire night.  The Bears were able to get i

Bears edge Eagles as tempers flare

In a border-rival contest against a regional opponent that featured three ties, seven lead changes, and a mid-court brawl, Butler County defeated Ohio County 76-71 on Thursday night in Hartford.  The win is the first for the Bears against Ohio County in several years.  
A fast-paced game throughout, the Bears fell behind 6-0 as the Eagles hit a pair of three to start the game.  Butler fought back and was leading 19-17 after the first quarter.  
The game stayed tight through the first half with Butler County holding a 38-37 lead at the half.

BCMS Lady Bears end season with GRVC Tournament

The Butler County Middle School Lady Bears' basketball team wrapped up its 2013 season last weekend with the annual Green River Valley
Conference Tournament.  The 8th grade team fell to Edmonson County 55-26, while the 7th grade team lost to Breckinridge County 46-24.  The tournament was held at McLean County.

BCMS Boys struggle with Breck Co. and Russellville

“Close, but no cigar” would be an accurate way to describe the BCMS 8th grade boys’ basketball team this season.  The Bears battle night after night in games that are only decided by a few points, but just can’t seem to clinch the win.  This week was no different.  Once again the Bears fought in two close games but couldn’t come out on top as they hosted theTigers from Breckinridge County and traveled to Russellville to face the Panthers.
