Jakes Day 2016

A total of 80 young anglers took part in the 18th Annual Butler County Longbeard's Jakes event Saturday morning on the Haynes Family property in the Leonard Oak community of  Butler County.

According to organizers, the lake was stocked with approximately 800 pounds of fish - several pounds of which were caught.  Prizes were given out and a snapping turtle was caught.  Valerie Bratcher won the gun.  All proceeds from the sale of the rifle will benefit the Jakes Day event in 2017. 

 

Bennie Morris from Greenville came and brought his snake display - a favorite with the kids.
"The weather cooperated with us and it was a great day for the children," said Deniece Hawkins, one of the organizers.   "Also thanks for everyone who helps, donated items and support us each year."
