Thelma June Church

Thelma June Church, 83 of Morgantown, Ky. passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky. Thelma was born March 19, 1933, in Butler County Kentucky to the late Shelley and Annie Flewallen Brown and wife of the late Luke Church.
She was a member of Cool Springs General Baptist Church and a homemaker. Other than her parents and husband she is preceded in death by three brothers Charlie, Denzil and Bobby Brown and two sisters Carolyn Brown and Doris Mitchell.

Gary L. Jenkins of Morgantown, Ky. was born on March 13, 1942 in Gilstrap, Kentucky . He married his beloved wife Carole F. (Matlock) on May 26, 1995. Gary unexpectedly passed at his home on February 12, 2017. He is preceded in death by his father Lee Jenkins and his son Scott Jenkins. He is survived by his mother Carmen Richardson, his brothers Jarald (Beulah) Jenkins and Truman (Judy) Jenkins, his wife Carole (Matlock) Jenkins, his children Timothy D. Nyla Morgan

Nyla Hammers Morgan, 98, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017. Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend will be greatly missed. Butler County has lost a legend.  Nyla was born March 16, 1918 in Morgantown, Kentucky, the daughter of Herman and Mary Ann Johnson Hammers. She married Thurman Thomas Moore (deceased)  and Clarence "Sug" Morgan (deceased). Nyla is the loving mother to daughters, Brenda Moore (Richard) Anthony and Glenda Moore (Eddie) Beck.

Shirley Ray House, age 71, of Morgantown Ky., passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at his residence. Ray was born February 15, 1945 in Butler County, Ky., to the late Marcus and Bessie Hope House. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith. Shirley Ray House is survived by his loving wife Mary Wisdom House of Morgantown Ky., three sisters; Sarah Burris of Bowling Green Ky., Betty Shepherd and Vonnie Flener both of Morgantown Ky., Two brothers; Neil House and Gregory House both of Morgantown Ky.

Maudrie Odell Fleming Phelps

Maudrie Odell Fleming Phelps, 93, of Morgantown, Kentucky passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at Morgantown Care & Rehab. Maudrie was born October 9, 1923 in Butler County, Kentucky to the late Frank Oren and Bernice Vaughn Fleming and she was the wife of the late Roy Franklin Phelps. She was a member of Palm View Baptist Church in Palmetto, Florida and was retired from the University of Wisconsin. Other than her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one son, Ronald Phelps, and one brother-in-law, Denzel Mefford.

Lillian Whitaker Cardwell

Lillian Whitaker Cardwell was born September 4, 1918, to William and Osie Flener Whitaker and left for a better world February 5, 2017.  Her mother succumbed to the 1918 flu epidemic, and for seven years she was raised by an aunt.  She was then moved to maternal grandparents, Jake and Arinda Coots Flener where her sister, Rhue lived.  She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and served 60 plus years in the Eastern Star.  She married Ray Cardwell December 9, 1936, and lived a long and happy life.  She worked for many years at the Fifth District School, loved her family, traveling, g

Edith Gidcumb, 87 of Morgantown, Ky. passed away Friday, February 3, 2017, at her residence. Edith was born January 17, 1930, in Ohio County Kentucky to the late M.L. and Dixie Douglas Blanchard and wife of the late Clay "Stinger" Bratcher and James E. "Jimmy" Gidcumb. She was a member of Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church and retired from General Electric in Owensboro, Ky. after 37 years.

Betty was born March 23, 1944, in Butler County, Kentucky to the late Herschel and Eiria Willis Hunt and wife of the late James Harrold "Bobby" Pierce. She was a member of Belmont General Baptist Church, Belmont Ladies Aid and retired bus driver for Butler County Board of Education. Other than her parents and husband she is preceded in death by two brothers James Archie Hunt and Claude Hunt and one sister Joyce Hunt.

Gladean McCoy Givens

Gladean McCoy Givens, 89, of Morgantown, Ky. passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Morgantown Care and Rehab Center.  She was born in Butler Co. on April 28, 1927 to the late Lucian and Thelma Jenkins McCoy.  She was a member of Morgantown First Baptist Church, a homemaker and babysitter and enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clyde Givens; sister Effie June Camfield and nephew Benny Joe McCoy.
