Lillian Whitaker Cardwell

Lillian Whitaker Cardwell was born September 4, 1918, to William and Osie Flener Whitaker and left for a better world February 5, 2017.  Her mother succumbed to the 1918 flu epidemic, and for seven years she was raised by an aunt.  She was then moved to maternal grandparents, Jake and Arinda Coots Flener where her sister, Rhue lived.  She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and served 60 plus years in the Eastern Star.  She married Ray Cardwell December 9, 1936, and lived a long and happy life.  She worked for many years at the Fifth District School, loved her family, traveling, gardening, cooking, and UK basketball.  She is survived by five sons: Glendon L. (Bonnie) of Jupiter, Florida: Ronnie Edward (Norma) of Louisville, KY: Allen Ray (Joy Wyatt) of  Rockfield, KY: Dwight C. of Glasgow, KY: Kenny Lynn (Kaye) of Bowling Green, KY: 15 grandchildren:  22 great-grandchildren: and 14 great great-grandchildren: one sister Rhue Whitaker Flener of Bowling Green, KY.  She was preceded in death by an infant son, Lincoln C., two daughters, Beverly Nykwest (Edward):  Charlotte Jean Lindsey and one grandson, Michael Ray Hunt.  She was faithfully watched over by two loving granddaughters, Lisa Nicewinter and Laura Oliver, for many years.

Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 11:00 am with Bro. Halqua Wilson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hill Haven Memory Garden Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017,  from 5-8 pm, Saturday 8 am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.
 In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Morgantown Mission, 401 GL Smith St., Morgantown, KY where she volunteered for many years.
