Bears beat Whitesville Trinity for district win, 80-70

MORGANTOWN - Butler County shook off a slow start to beat visiting Whitesville Trinity 80-70 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 28.

After registering the win, Butler County improved to 12-6 overall and 1-2 in the 12th District.

Whitesville Trinity dropped to 9-9 overall and 2-1 in the 12th District following the loss. 

Taking a lead early, Whitesville Trinity outscored Butler County 20-16 in the first quarter. 

But Butler County moved ahead in the second period. The Bears battled back to lead 35-32 at halftime. Extending its lead shortly after the intermission period, Butler County led 60-53 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Bears in the victory. 

Lawson Rice scored 25 points to lead Butler County to the district win. Accompanying Rice in double figures for the Bears, Isaac Dockery added 17 points, Brody Hunt contributed 16 points and Solomon Flener tallied 12 points.

Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Jagger Henderson and Colton Tichenor chipped in seven points and three points, respectively.
