Butler County beats Dawson Springs for 11th straight win

DAWSON SPRINGS - Visiting Butler County pulled away to beat Dawson Springs 72-39 in a girls' high school basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 29, registering its 11th straight win.

Following the win, Butler County improved to 17-1, 

Butler County shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field in the victory. The Lady Bears shot 41.7 percent (five-of-12) from three-point range.

Butler County shot 63 percent (17-of-27) from the free throw line. 

Gracie Cardwell led Butler County to the win. Recording a double-double, Cardwell scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. 

Accompanying Cardwell in double figures in scoring for Butler County, Jaelyn Taylor netted 14 points and Taylin Clark added 11 points.

Butler County featured eight different scorers, including Jenna Phelps (eight points), Taylor Leach (six points), Kaylee Givens (five points), Kennedy Rice (four points) and Bailey Moore (one point).

Butler County is scheduled to visit Whitesville Trinity for a 12th District girls' basketball game at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31. 

 

Lady Bears notch district win over Whitesville Trinity 

MORGANTOWN - Butler County pulled away to defeat visiting Whitesville Trinity 44-35 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 28.

After recording the win, Butler County improved to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in the 12th District.

Whitesville Trinity dropped to 7-7 overall and 2-1 in the 12th District following the loss. 

Butler County overcame a slow start to claim the district win. 

Moving ahead early, Whitesville Trinity edged Butler County 9-7 in the first quarter. Whitesville Trinity led 17-14 at halftime but faltered after the break.

Butler County battled back to lead 28-21 at the conclusion of the third quarter and finished strong. 

Jaelyn Taylor scored 12 points to lead Butler County to the district win. Accompanying Taylor in double figures for the Lady Bears, Jenna Phelps scored 11 points and Gracie Cardwell netted 10 points.

Contributing offensively, Graci Leach (five points), Taylor Leach (four points) and Taylin Clark (two points) provided the rest of Butler County's scoring in the district win.
