Bears & Lady Bears outlast Whitesville Trinity

Bears roll past Raiders, 84-61

WHITESVILLE — Butler County rolled past homestanding Whitesville Trinity 84-61 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Monday, Jan. 31. 

Moving ahead early, Butler County outscored Whitesville Trinity 19-14 in the first quarter.

The Bears led 41-34 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half. Butler County extended its lead after the intermission period. The Bears led 62-45 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Butler County shot 57.1 percent (32-of-56) from the field. The Bears shot 52.9 percent (nine-of-17) from the free throw line.

Butler County shot 73.3 percent (nine-of-17) from three-point range.

Calvin Dockery-coached Butler County featured four scorers in double figures.

Recording a double-double for the Bears, Lawson Rice scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Following Rice in scoring for Butler County, Jagger Henderson netted 17 points. 

Providing another double-double for the Bears, Solomon Flener scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. 

Joining three of his teammates in double figures, Brody Hunt contributed 15 points for the Bears.

Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Isaac Dockery (seven points), Colton Tichenor (five points), Braden Dockery (three points) and Zack Phelps (two points) provided the rest of the Bears' scoring. 

 

Lady Bears outlast Whitesville Trinity, 49-45

WHITESVILLE — Visiting Butler County outlasted Whitesville Trinity 49-45 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Monday, Jan. 31. 

The Lady Bears overcame a slow start to notch the win.

Starting strong, Whitesville Trinity outscored Butler County 14-10 in the opening quarter.

But Butler County battled back to lead 24-21 at halftime.

Extending its lead after the intermission period, Butler County led 36-29 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Butler County featured four scorers in double figures. 

Gracie Cardwell scored 12 points to lead Butler County to the district win. Accompanying Cardwell in double figures for the Lady Bears, Taylin Clark scored 11 points while Jaelyn Taylor and Graci Leach added 10 points apiece.

Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Taylor Leach and Jenna Phelps chipped in four points and two points, respectively. 

Cassidy Morris led Whitesville Trinity with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Accompanying Morris in double figures for Whitesville Trinity, Josie Aull netted 11 points.

The other scorers for Whitesville Trinity in the district matchup included Kenzie McDowell (eight points), Katherine Hibbitt (four points), Hadley Hatfield (four points) and Sarah Payne (two points).
