Butler County outlasts Metcalfe County in overtime, 70-64

MORGANTOWN — Butler County outlasted visiting Metcalfe County 70-64 in overtime in a girls' high school basketball game on Monday, Jan. 24.

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 15-1.

Metcalfe County dropped to 10-9 after suffering the loss. 

Butler County led 37-28 at halftime. The Lady Bears led 44-42 at the conclusion of the third quarter before regulation ended with the two girls' high school basketball teams tied 60-60. 

Butler County shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the field. The Lady Bears shot 30.8 percent (four-of-13) from three-point range.

Butler County shot 75.9 percent (22-of-29) from the free throw line. 

Gracie Cardwell scored a game-high 21 points to lead Butler County to the win. Cardwell connected on eight of 12 field goal attempts.

Behind Cardwell in scoring for the Lady Bears, Jaelyn Taylor netted 19 points.

Accompanying Cardwell and Taylor in double figures for Butler County, Taylor Leach scored 14 points.

Aiding Butler County's offensive attack, Taylin Clark added eight points, Graci Leach contributed five points and Jenna Phelps posted three points.

In addition to breaking into the scoring column, Clark and Phelps pulled down 10 rebounds apiece. 

Metcalfe County shot 40 percent (22-of-55) from the field. The Lady Hornets shot 47.4 percent (nine-of-19) from three-point range.

Metcalfe County shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from the free throw line.

Kassady London scored 18 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Accompanying London in double figures for Metcalfe County, Anna Blythe scored 15 points and Braelyn Davis netted 10 points.

Rounding out Metcalfe County's individual scoring, Aubrey Glass, Jaycie Harper and Aubrey Jolly chipped in seven points apiece. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Whitesville Trinity for a 12th District girls' basketball game at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28.
