Operation Butler County Christmas Toys

Christmas is coming! And you know what that means – your help is needed.  Preparations are now being made for the annual “Operation Butler Co. Christmas Toys”. Request for monetary donations and toy collections are now in progress. Last year the Butler County Family Resource & Youth Services Centers worked with the Morgantown Mission and Cash Express to collect & distribute Christmas gifts to 369 children. This could not be possible without generous donations from businesses, churches, and individuals.

Utility, Housing and Food Assistance for Those in an Emergency Situation

The 2010 US Census reported that poverty in America has increased for the fourth year in a row with over 15% of the population living in poverty. In the 10 county area served by Community Action of Southern Kentucky, this equals to 42,629 children, seniors and individuals living in poverty. Community Action has many programs serving low income families, including the Emergency Food and Shelter Program(EFSP) that served over 700 families last year. But this year, that number will be dramatically less.

Morgantown PINK Out

Morgantown Turned PINK on Sunday, October 30, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.  The event was organized by Audrey Porter and Becky Hankins.  “We wanted to recognize the survivors and increase awareness of breast cancer,” said Porter.

Butler County NSDAR's Veterans Breakfast

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Butler County Chapter hosted their annual Veterans Breakfast on Saturday morning at the BCHS Commons Area.  Chapter Regent Georgia Romans welcomed the group of over 20 veterans and their families.  Lois Russ, Flag Chair led the group in the Pledge, after which Doug Odle gave the invocation.

UMC Taster's Luncheon

For well over 20 years the United Methodist Women of Morgantown, Woodbury UMC, and Huntsville UMC have held their Annual Fall Taster's Luncheon.  On Friday, November 4, the fellowship hall of the Morgantown First United Methodist Church was full of tasters.  At one time 31 individuals were in line.  The UMC ladies provided some delicious meats, vegetables, salads, and desserts.

Green River NSDAR Veteran of 2011- Dewey Brooks

The Green River Chapter NSDAR honors the family of Mr. Dewey Brooks who served in World War II.   He passed away this year, on July 11, 2011.  His family will be honored at the Veterans Reception, after the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Morgantown Elementary Cafeteria. THE FAMILY OF DEWEY BROOKS - WORLD WAR II
Dewey Brooks, son of Milligan and Leora Embry Brooks was born in Butler County.  He was married to Vivian Dockery in June of 1942.
