Burch Family Honored at Green River Museum

On Saturday, October 15, the Green River Museum held its annual fall open house, this year honoring the second family to live in the historic Superintendent's House, the James W. Burch family. Descendents of the Burch’s five children (Loucille, James, Mary, Martha, and Jessie Frances or “High Stepper”) were in attendance for Saturday’s event.

Anti-Drug Coalition

Butler County and Ohio County are working together to create an Anti-Drug Coalition in Butler County.  There will be a community meeting at the Butler County Education Complex (Board Room) at 6:00pm on October 25, 2011. Hotdogs and chips will be served.  There will be a formal announcement of Butler County being the recipient of the Drug Free Communities Mentoring Grant and answering of any questions that anyone may have.  For more information contact Rhonda Vaughn at 535-5333.

Barbara & David West Celebrate 50th Anniversary

50th Wedding Anniversary: Barbara and David West of Morgantown, Kentucky, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on October 21, 2011.
The West’s have two daughters:  Paula Lee – husband Gary, Kimberly Embry- husband Johnny and one granddaughter Courtney Embry.

First Responders Visit NBES

On Friday, the First Responders did an educational program for the students at North Butler Elementary School.  “We are very excited to have the First Responders at our school,” said Principal Elaine Daugherty.  It is important for the students to understand emergency procedures and not fear the responders.”

"In Memory of Brittany"

In memory of Brittany was the name of the balloon release held on Friday at North Butler Elementary School.  Linda Tyree, a Butler County School Counselor, facilitates a grief small group at North Butler Elementary School for nine 4th grade students who were close friends of Brittany Mahaney, who was killed this summer in an auto accident on County Road. Brittany’s birthday was September 24th so on Friday at noon the fourth grade students at NBES, Ms. Dorris and Ms.

The Perfect Fit Mastectomy Boutique Now Open

The Perfect Fit Mastectomy Boutique held its Grand Opening on Monday, October 3. It is located inside of Rice's Pharmacy in Beaver Dam. 

According to employee Julie Hudnall, Perfect Fit "services women who have had mastectomies and also women who have been reconstructed. We also offer a very private and inviting setting so that our clients feel comfortable."

BC Water Hosts Food Drive for Morgantown Mission

Butler County Water System is proud to host a food drive to support the local Morgantown Mission. Throughout the month of October, bring non-perishable food items to our office at 104 South Tyler Street to help stock the Mission's Pantry. We appreciate your support in helping those less fortunate in our community.

Homemaker Pecan Fund Raiser Underway

It’s pecan fundraising time for the Butler County Homemakers!  Homemakers are taking orders for pecans, either pieces or halves through October 24th.  These are fresh off the trees pecans (2011 crop) and the Homemakers will be getting delivery of the first group picked.  They will sell for $9.00 per pound and the funds raised from this project is used to provide two educational scholarships each year.

Class of 1948 Reunion

The Morgantown High School graduating class of 1948 held their 63rd class reunion at the Moore-Kent House on Saturday, October 8.  There were 13 graduates and 9 guest in attendance.  Dorothy Railey Byrns came all the way from Florida to be with her friends.  The group met at 11:00 am with lunch at 12:00.  Jane Kent Smith served a delicious lunch that everyone enjoyed.  Pictures were made and lots of reminiscing was done.
