Bears & Lady Bears fall to Franklin-Simpson

Bears drop game to Franklin-Simpson 

FRANKLIN — Visiting Butler County slipped back into the loss column as Franklin-Simpson prevailed 60-52 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Butler county suffered the setback after notching back-to-back wins. 

The Bears led 14-12 at the conclusion of the first quarter but faltered. Franklin-Simpson battled back to lead 30-23 at halftime. 

Stretching its lead after the intermission period, Butler County led 42-30 at the end of the third quarter. 

Franklin-Simpson shot 52.5 percent (21-of-40) from the field. The Wildcats shot 30.8 percent (four-of-18) from three-point range.

Franklin-Simpson shot 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free throw line. 

Inside, Franklin-Simpson outrebounded Butler County 22-18. 

Franklin-Simpson featured four different scorers in double figures. 

Jalen Briscoe led Franklin-Simpson with a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. 

Accompanying Briscoe in double figures for the Wildcats, Andreyas Miller added 14 points, Gabe Jones contributed 11 points and Connor Vincent tallied 10 points. 

OJ Gamble and Sam Mylor rounded out Franklin-Simpson's individual scoring, chipping in three points and two points, respectively. 

Butler County shot 45.7 percent (21-of-46) from the field. The Bears shot 25 percent (six-of-24) from three-point range.

Butler County shot 50 percent (four-of-eight) from the free throw line. 

Brody Hunt scored 21 points to lead Butler County to the win. Accompanying Hunt in double figures for the Bears, Solomon Flener scored 13 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Lawson Rice netted nine points. 

Chipping in offensively for the Bears, Isaac Dockery added five points while Zack Phelps and Jagger Henderson chipped in two points apiece. 

Flener paced Butler County inside, pulling down six rebounds. 

 

Lady Bears fall to Franklin-Simpson  

FRANKLIN — Franklin-Simpson halted visiting Butler County's 12-game winning streak, beating the Lady Bears 65-49 in a girls' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 1. 

Host Franklin-Simpson led 34-26 at halftime

A member of the 4th Region, Franklin-Simpson shot 40.8 percent (20-of-49) from the field. The Lady Cats shot 47.1 percent (eight-of-17) from three-point range.

Franklin-Simpson shot 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free throw line. 

Alera Barbee scored 22 points to lead Franklin-Simpson to the win. Accompanying Barbee in double figures for Franklin-Simpson, Katelyn McAlister scored 15 points and Hadley Turner netted 11 points.

Chipping in offensively, Malyea Partinger (seven points), Jasmine Savage (four points), Ashanti Johnson (four points) and Vanessa Ray (two points) accounted for the rest of Franklin-Simpson's scoring. 

Taylin Clark scored 14 points to lead Butler County. Accompanying Clark in double figures for the Lady Bears, Jaelyn Taylor and Jenna Phelps scored 11 points apiece. 

Contributing offensively, Gracie Cardwell (eight points), Graci Leach (three points) and Taylor Leach (two points) provided Butler County's additional scoring.
