Bears drop home game to Christian County

MORGANTOWN — Butler County was limited offensively during the first half as Christian County held on to win 53-47 in a boys' high school basketball game on Monday, Feb. 7. 

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 14-8. 

Moving ahead early, Christian County outscored Butler County 13-10 in the first quarter. Stretching its lead prior to the intermission period, Christian County doubled up the Bears 16-8 in the second period to lead 29-18 at halftime.

Butler County managed to battle back, outscoring Christian County 22-13 in the third quarter.

But the Colonels ended the game on an 11-7 run in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

Breland Morrison and Derrell Bateman scored 14 points apiece to lead Christian County to the victory. Narrowly missing double figures for the Colonels, Jordan Miles netted nine points.

The additional scorers for Christian County were JaSean Riley (six points), KJ Vaughn (six points), Xavien Henderson (three points), Jalil Farrow (two points) and Jayden Williams (one point).  

Butler County shot 34.4 percent (11-of-32) from the field. The Bears connected on six-of-14 attempts from three-point range, shooting 42.9 percent beyond the arc.

Butler County shot 76 percent (19-of-25) from the free throw line. 

Jagger Henderson scored 16 points to lead the Bears. Accompanying Henderson in double figures for Butler County, Brody Hunt netted 10 points. 

Contributing offensively for Butler County, Colton Tichenor (six points), Isaac Dockery (five points), Braden Dockery (three points), Solomon Flener (three points), Lawson Rice (three points) and Zack Phelps (one point) provided the rest of the Bears' scoring.
