BCHS, BCMS archery teams place first at Edmonson County

BROWNSVILLE - The Butler County High School and Butler County Middle School archery teams each placed first in an Edmonson County-hosted archery tournament over the weekend.

Butler County archers excelled on the high school and middle school levels.

Student-athletes from the Butler County archery programs are developing into some of the area's top young archers. 

A breakdown of Butler County's individual finishes in the Edmonson County-hosted archery tournament follows.

BOWLING GREEN - The Butler County High School archery team finished first in the Bristow Fun Shoot on Saturday, Nov. 13. 

Held at Bristow Elementary, the tournament featured high school and middle school archers.

BCHS bass fishing team excelling in debut season

MORGANTOWN - The Butler County High School bass fishing team is excelling in its debut season.

The Bears competed in back-to-back tournaments over a seven-day span.

Upstart Butler County competed in its second tournament of the debut season on Saturday, Nov. 6. Leading Butler County in the debut, Ty Griffin and Avery Gibbs won the tournament.

Bears compile winning record, 10th-best RPI

MORGANTOWN – Butler County compiled a winning record in the 2021 high school football season, concluding its latest gridiron campaign 6-5.

The Bears lost to Owensboro Catholic in the opening round of the KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs. However, Butler County won six of 10 regular season games and showed improvement throughout the 2021 high school football season.  

The Bears claimed wins over Waggener, Breckinridge County, Grayson County, McLean County, Clinton County and Ohio County.

Bears fall to Owensboro Catholic in Class 2A Playoffs

OWENSBORO - Visiting Butler County was limited to a pair of touchdowns as Owensboro Catholic pulled away to win 41-16 in the opening round of the KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs at Steele Stadium on Friday, Nov. 5. 

Following the loss, Butler County exited the 2021 high school football season 6-5.

Owensboro Catholic, which improved to 6-5 after notching the win, scored first and never trailed. 

The Aces led 21-2 at halftime.

Cross Country: Smith named to All-State Team

MORGANTOWN - Butler County High School sophomore Parker Smith has been named to the Kentucky Track and Cross Cross Country Coaches Association Boys' Class AA All-State Team.

 

Smith led Butler County throughout the 2021 boys' high school cross country season. A standout student-athlete, Smith will enter the 2021 boys' high school cross country season as one of the top runners in Class AA.

Bears to visit Owensboro Catholic in Class 2A Playoffs

MORGANTOWN - Butler County is set to visit Owensboro Catholic in the first round of the KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 5.

The Bears concluded the regular season 6-4. Butler County has claimed wins over Waggener, Breckinridge County, Grayson County, McLean County, Clinton County, and Ohio County. The Bears have dropped games to Russellville, Hancock County, Owensboro Catholic, and Todd County Central.

Cross Country: Bears finish 19th in Class 2A State Meet

PARIS - The Butler County boys' cross country team finished 19th in the Class 2A State Meet at Bourbon County Park on Friday, Oct. 29. 

Taking the state team title, North Oldham won the Class 2A championship. 

Parker Smith paced the Bears, finishing 24th in 17:38.42.

MORGANTOWN - Butler County dominated in its regular season finale, beating visiting Ohio County 48-12 on Friday, Oct. 29.

Following the win, Butler County improved to 6-5.

Ohio County dropped to after 1-9 suffering the loss.
