Lady Bears Soccer

Tuesday September 20th was a rematch from the opening game of the season. Barren County came in sporting a fairly decent record and a little bit of a chip on their shoulders from the loss they handed the Bears early in the season. Little did they know our Lady Bears were ready for the challenge. The game went scoreless for the first 15 minutes. Barren County struck first and then almost immediately followed with a second goal. The Lady Bears were not giving up. Led by solid defense from the back line of defense and the again solid play from the goalie the first half ended with Butler down by two. After a couple adjustments the Bears were back at it in the second half. They played like they were supposed to, but still came up just shy of a win. Reports came in from the parents that comments from Barren’s fans were, “is this the same team as the one we played in August?” and “They are so much more skilled and aggressive than before.” These statements were telling of the progress and hard work your Lady Bears have put into this season.

On Thursday the Lady Bears were supposed to travel to McLean County to return a game from last month. Due to scheduling conflicts this game was cancelled. Instead as a team we took this opportunity to reflect on a great season of learning by going to WKU’s campus to further our soccer knowledge. WKU’s women’s soccer was playing Southern Mississippi. The experience was a great one. Our girls team got to relax and just be a team without the pressure of winning. The night started off with going to the Downing Student Center to eat dinner on campus. Once this was over as a team the girls, their families, and coaches walked to the soccer field just outside of main campus. The facilities were breathtaking. A well-manicured field, bright green with white and red field markings to match the home team’s colors. The game was great. The team was captivated and beyond impressed with the Lady Hilltopper’s play and eventually their 1-0 win. Overall it was a great team building experience and one those involved will remember for a long time.
