Lady Bears continues to show improvement.

Tuesday, September 26th marked the next to last game of the season against an opponent the Lady Bears were excited to play. In the previous outing against Breckinridge County the Lady Bears fell short in a very close match. On Tuesday there was more of the same intensity to come from both teams. The game started later than usual because of scheduling conflicts. Once the game started around seven o’clock p.m. Breckenridge wasted no time getting their first goal of the night. This happened with about six minutes off the clock. The score remained the same through half-time. After a few minor adjustments the second half was under way. The Lady Bears started the second half with great goalie play and amazing support from the defense. The second half also showed a few offensive surges as well. The Bears had 11 shots in the second half and all but two were on goal. At around the twelve minute mark in the second half there was a hand ball foul called on Breckenridge inside the keeper’s box. This resulted in a penalty shot. Although there were many capable players to take the penalty shot, the coaches called on Dixie Garnier. The referee blew the whistle and seconds later it was tied 1-1. For the next 29 minutes and 20 seconds the score was knotted up at ones. With bodies, stamina, and time running down each team had a few shots left at netting the go ahead goal for the win. With 40 seconds left in the game there was a slight miscommunication and break down in the defense and Breckenridge County scored the clinching goal. As heart breaking as it was and even though it was a loss the away team’s fans cheered as though the Lady Bears were victorious.

Thursday night was a bit of a different situation all around. The Lady Bears visited the Grayson County Cougars. On this night it was raining, cold, and those things combined with a quick scoring and talented opposition make for a long evening. Grayson County boasts two of the district’s top scorers and they were on display. Grayson scored first quickly and added a couple more soon after. The Bears made several stops and showed much improvement from the first time they played Grayson. The Junior Varsity also played. They fought hard and had many scoring opportunities. Their defense at times was a little porous but once they made the suggested adjustments they slowed down the attacks and advances of Grayson. The night ended much the same as the Varsity game, but let it be known both teams are better and will continue to get better each time they step on the field.
