Lady Bears fall to Owensboro in region tournament

OWENSBORO — Butler County suffered a season-ending loss as Owensboro pulled away to win 58-40 in the quarterfinals of the 3rd Region Girls' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Monday, March 4.

Following the loss, Butler County exited the 2023-24 girls' high school basketball season 18-14.

Setting the tone, Owensboro outscored Butler County 12-7 in the opening quarter.

Owensboro led 32-21 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

Extending its lead, Owensboro led 52-27 at the end of the third quarter. 

Ava Wilson scored 12 points to lead Butler County in the region tournament game. Wilson was the only Butler County player to reach double figures.

Following Wilson in scoring for Butler County, Taylor Leach netted seven points and Addison Miller posted six points. Leach and Miller are seniors. 

Eight different players broke into Butler County's scoring column. The additional scorers for Butler County were Ann Marie Skaggs (five points), Parker Willoughby (four points), Bailey Moore (three points), Maddie Jones (two points) and Karrington Hunt (one point). 

Butler County is set to return six of its top eight players for the 2024-25 girls' high school basketball season.
