Bears outlast Hart County, 34-32

MUNFORDVILLE - Determined Butler County prevailed in a 2020 high school football season opener on the road on Friday, Sept. 11, outlasting longtime rival Hart County 34-32.

Familiar foes, Butler County and Hart County swapped leads during the high school football season opener. 


KDE seeks more information from KHSAA regarding fall sports

As fall sports in Kentucky move closer to reality, the Kentucky Board of Education (KDE) and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) appear to still be in discussion as to how and when best to proceed.


KHSAA stays on track for restarting fall sports; Gov. Beshear “surprised” by the decision

High school football and other fall sports (volleyball, soccer, cross-country, etc.) remain on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s (KHSAA) calendar following an affirmative vote by the organization’s Board of Control on Thursday.  Prep sports seasons have been in doubt due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the government’s response to it.

Jones takes over as new archery coach at high school

Wesley Jones was recently named the head archery coach at Butler County High School.  He began working with archery at North Butler Elementary during the 2015-16 school year.


Meredith named new golf coach at BCHS

Kayla Meredith has accepted the position as the new Butler County Lady Bears' Golf Team Head Coach. Kayla is a graduate of Midway University where she was a member of the Lady Eagles golf team.


Mile markers posted Green River

Butler County Rescue Squad recently installed mile markers on the 58-mile stretch of the Green River that meanders through Butler County. These markers will help kayakers , fishermen  and boaters know what part of the river they are on and they can reference them if assistance is needed.


Coaches React After Spring Seasons' Cancelled

On Tuesday, April 21, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) announced that they were cancelling the remainder of the 2020 spring sports season as well as the girls and boys Sweet 16 basketball tournaments. According to a press release from the KHSAA, this comes on the heels of an announcement of the closure of all K-12 schools to in-person instruction throughout Kentucky for the remainder of the school year.


KHSAA places all school sports in "Dead Period;" no activities allowed now through April 12

This is being sent to all KHSAA constituents including guidance from the Governor, Public Health Officials and the Kentucky Department of Education.
