Beech Tree News presents: "Bears Spotlight" Lawson Rice

Lawson Rice

Lawson is the 6’6” starting center for the 12th district championship and 3rd region championship basketball team. He helped lead his team to an undefeated season against 3rd region opponents this year. He is a junior at BCHS and the son of Stephen and Stacy Rice. The Rice family resides in the Logansport community of Butler County.

 


Lawson began playing basketball in the Butler County Junior Pro league. In middle school, he was a part of the 7th grade GRVC championship team. In the offseason, he plays AAU basketball and spends lots of time in the gym improving his game. 


His mom, Stacy, played for the BCHS Lady Bears and was a part of the 1993 district championship team. Lawson’s sister, Kennedy, also played for the BCHS Lady Bears basketball team and was a part of the 2022 district championship team. Lawson’s brother, Parker, played for the Bears that won the 2020 district championship. 


Following in his dad’s footsteps, Lawson plays golf for the BCHS golf team. In 2023, he advanced to the first round of the KHSAA state golf tournament.


Lawson also works hard in the classroom maintaining a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of Beta Club, NAC Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He attends Christ Covenant Church, and enjoys hunting and fishing. He works as a lifeguard at the Morgantown City Pool in the summers.


Lawson is in the 1,000 point club and 500 rebound club at BCHS. He was awarded 3rd region first team for the 2023-24 season.
