Bears beat Cougars in 12th District match-up; fall to Lead Academy, Caverna

The Butler County Bears won in dramatic fashion on January 20 over rival Grayson County.  Trailing by double digits in the second half, the Bears rallied to get within striking distance late in the fourth quarter.  With about 3 seconds remaining, Will Moore sank a 17-foot jumper to give the Bears a 58-56 win.

Moore led the Bears in scoring with 16 points; Baylee Anderson added 14 points.  Blake Graham had five rebounds to lead the team. 

Butler County was 22 for 45 in field goals; 6 for 12 in 3-point goals; and 6 for 11 in free throws. 

Butler County (58):  Moore 16, Anderson 14, Henderson 8, Graham 7, Grubb 7, Beasley 6.

Butler County ran into a buzz saw on Saturday, January 21, in the Polaris Shootout at Calloway County.  The Bears fell 96-59 to the Lead Academy from Tennessee. 

Rex Henderson led the team in scoring with a 21-point performance; Will Moore had 10 points.

Butler County (59):  Henderson 21, Moore 10, Graham 8, Grubb 7, Beasley 7, Graham 8.

The Bears were back on the road on January 23 at Caverna.  Butler County dropped a tough 78-69 decision. 

Baylee Anderson led the Bears in scoring with 25 points; Will Moore had 21 points; and Rex Henderson had 12.

Butler County (69):  Anderson 25, Moore 21, Henderson 12, Grubb 6, Beasley 3, Graham 2.

Butler County (7-11) returns to action tonight on the road at Edmonson County.  The Lady Bears will tip at 6 p.m. with the Bears to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on WLBQ 101.5 with James White and Jack Clark.
