UPDATE: May 7, 2015 GaskeyNamed Academic All-District  by Capital One

Seniors Alexa Becker and CheyAnne Gaskey and sophomore Jessica Twaddle were named as Academic All-District Softball selections by Capital One Thursday, as  selected by CoSIDA.

Congratulations David Cody Guess of Lyon County.  It’s Official. The National Wild Turkey Federation has confirmed that Cody’s massive wild turkey is in the books as being the world record at 37.6 lbs. He killed the giant bird April 21, 2015 on his family’s farm in Lyon County.

Cody says he has been tagging along on hunts since he was three years old and started hunting at age five. The biggest kill prior to this record was in Kansas with a weight of 27 pounds.

The 17^th Annual National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Hunting Heritage Banquet was held on Saturday night at the Educational Complex.  The event is hosted each year by the Butler County Longbeards Chapter.

The Butler County Bears Softball team is currently 15-8 on the season, 6-5 in region play, and 2-0 in the district.  With 23 games under their belts the Bears have scored 150 runs and are hitting .314 as a team.  The JV team is currently 9-3-1 on the season.  They have scored 77 runs and are hitting .326 as a team. The Butler County tennis team traveled to Ohio County on Tuesday April 28 for a match against Muhlenberg County. Prior to the game, five  seniors from Butler County were recognized. The seniors were as follows:

Braiden Martin, 9 of Morgantown, got his first turkey on Saturday, April 25th.  The turkey weighed 16 lbs., and had a 5 inch beard.  Braiden was hunting with his grandfather.

Future BEARS if you are ready to learn new skills and develop your game please attend the BCHS BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP.   This year we will have combined sessions, the camp will be held at Butler County Middle School.

Butler County Middle School was the site of the 2015 Bear Run and 1 mile walk on Saturday to support Butler County High School’s 2015 Project Prom. This is the 9th year for the run, which started in 2007 . This year the run featured 61 runners and 44 walkers in a diverse range of ages.

Another Bulter County High School football player will be continuing his playing career at the collegiate level.  Conner Reed, last week, signed to play football at Kentucky Wesleyan College (K.W.C.) in Owensboro, Kentucky.  The signing ceremony was held at the Butler County High School Athletic Fieldhouse and was attended by friends, family members, teammates, coaches and school officials.  Reed, who played on both the offensive and defensive lines for Butler County, will be joining another Butler County player - C.W.

Friday night, April 17, I, along with my dad, sister and brother-in-law, journeyed to St. Louis’ Busch Stadium to see the Cardinals take on the Cincinnati Reds.  As soon as we made it to St. Louis, we had time to only check into the hotel rooms, drop our bags and head to the game.
