Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Trail cameras are windows into the woods

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A few paces inside a tree line that borders an open field thick with chest-high grass lies a tangle of narrow, sun-dappled game trails just a stone’s throw from the Kentucky River below.
Bo Spencer knows deer, turkey, raccoon and the occasional bobcat travel these thoroughfares because a trail camera he set up to photograph the spot has captured images of them.

KSR Will Broadcast Live from Final Finish

For the 4th consecutive year, Matt Jones and his Kentucky Sports Radio cohorts are coming to Morgantown. Jones, along with co-host Ryan Lemond and Shannon the Dude will be in town on Thursday, July 2nd. They will broadcast their show live from Final Finish on Gardner Camp Road from 9-11 a.m.

In just five years Jones has watched what started as an Internet-only podcast grow into a radio sensation. With more than 30 affiliates the show is one of the most-popular regional sports shows in America. His Kentucky Sports Radio blog is America's largest independent sports blog.

2015 Soccer Season Begins

July 13, the Butler County High School soccer team will begin conditioning for the 2015 season.  Due to possible high heat indexes as summer brings, we will begin conditioning at 3:30 to 5:00pm.  I am working on a camp, which will be held at the soccer Field, for two days, two hour periods.  Any young male athlete that would like to play soccer, contact Coach Melton at 270 535-2355.

BC Bassmasters: Mudd & Flener Takes Top Prize

Butler County Bassmasters held the first Annual Green River Catfish Festival Open Bass Tournament at the Aberdeen Boat Ramp on Green River. "We had a great day on the water at our inaugural event," said Daniel Cardwell.

Roger Flener and Jacob Mudd took home the $1000 top prize with 5 fish weighing 10.46 lbs., as well as big fish with a nice 4.00 lb largemouth. The total purse for the event came in at $1800.00 cash and prizes.

Bears' Basketball hosts summer camp

Basketball fundamentals were being taught last week - June 22-24 - as the Butler County Bears' basketball team hosted their summer camp at the B.C.M.S. gym.  The camp is in its third year and was attended by 44 players in grades pre-school through eighth.

Morgantown-Butler County Swim Team off to a great start!

The Morgantown-Butler County Swim Team, MBCST, has gotten off to a great start this season.  We held our first meet last week June 16th.  This was our annual Relay meet teams in attendance were The Portland Sting Rays and The Scottsville Seadragons.


There were some delays due to the weather though the teams were kept entertained by some good music and doing some line dances.

29 girls attend 14th Annual B.C.H.S. Softball Camp

A near-capacity number of participants took part in the 14th Annual Butler County High School Softball Camp, which was held June 8-12 at the B.C.H.S. Softball Field.  Rained out on Monday, June 8, the camp ran through Friday, June 12 with 29 girls talking part.  The camp is hosted by the B.C.H.S. softball team and is designed to teach young players the proper fundamentals of fastpitch softball.  It also serves as an important fundraiser for the team.

Jakes' Day 2015

A total of 106 young anglers took part in the Annual Butler County Longbeard's Jakes Day event on Saturday at the Haynes Family property in the Leonard Oak community of Butler County. Each angler paid $15, was provided lunch and got to keep all the fish they caught.

2015 Little Lady Bear Basketball Camp set for June 22-24

The 2015 Butler County Little Lady Bear Camp will be held, June 22nd-24th, at Butler County High School’s gym and will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This camp is for any Little Lady Bear who will be entering Kindergarten through 8th grade.

B.C. Girls' Softball holds end-of-season tournament

Heart Breakers - Champions in the 9-12 year old division

A full day of softball was played on Saturday, June 6, as Butler County High School played host to the Butler County Girls' Softball League's end-of-season tournament.  A total of eight teams took part in the day-long event.  The morning session consisted of three games in the 5-8 league. In the championship game, the Explosion defeated the Blue Diamonds 8-5.
