SOCCER: Lady Bears pick up first win of season

On Tuesday, August 15, the Butler County Lady Bears soccer team recorded their first win of the season - both at the varsity and junior varsity level. With outside temperatures hovering around 96 degrees the match started. Immediately, Lady Bear Dixie Garnier had 3 shots on goal. About 15 minutes into the first half heat was definitely playing a factor in the match. Both teams struggled with cramping and exhaustion. The first half was filled with shots on goal from the Bears but nothing hit the mark. After the half the Lady Bears would get on the score board twice. The first of the two was scored by Kierra Neighbors with the assist coming from a great pass by Michelle Cardwell. The second goal came about 10 minutes later from Garnier. There was no assist as she dribbled then shot on goal. With the great play from back to front your Lady Bears were victorious.

The junior varsity girls also showed they came ready to play. Anchored by a back defensive line and great play from goalie Gabby Stark, the offense added two goals of their own. The first goal was scored by Bailey Collins on a chip over the goalie. The second goal came a little later from Tori West ("Boots" as the girls call her.) Receiving the ball from a pass around the top of the 18-yard line, Tori made several dribbling moves and put it in the back of the net.

"Over all it was a great night to be a Butler County Bear," said Coach Sam Hartford.
