“MES Rocks” is this year’s school theme at Morgantown Elementary.  Therefore, when Morgantown resident Kaitlin Harrison heard of a contest being sponsored by The Parent Teacher Store, 100.7 SAM FM, and 105.3 My WOVO, called Classes that Rock,  Kaitlin couldn’t help but think of her husband’s third grade class at Morgantown Elementary.  So, as soon as she made it to her computer, Kaitlin nominated Mr. Marcus Harrison’s Third Grade Class at Morgantown Elementary School as a Class that Rocks!  
 

The Morgantown – Butler County Chamber of Commerce held their 2011 Annual Awards Banquet Tuesday night  at the Butler County Education Complex.  Chamber Vice President Becky Hankins presided over the ceremony, which honored outstanding contributions to the community by businesses, organizations, and citizens.  Chamber President Kay Romans was unable to attend due to surgery last week.

The Butler County Board of Education held its monthly meeting at North Butler Elementary School on Monday, October 17.  The main topic of discussion was the recently released state test scores.  Vickie Cook, the District Assessment Coordinator, reported to the board on Butler County Schools’ progress.  According to Ms.

Morgantown Care and Rehab held their Fall Festival on Friday, October 14.  The street in front of MCR was shut down and the fun and excitement over flowed into the parking lot of First Baptist Church. Residents, family, and friends enjoyed games, face painting, cake walk and inflatables.  Cotton candy and popcorn were also favorites of the residents. This activity is just one of many hosted by MCR. Residents may not be young in age but on Friday afternoon several were young at heart.

Lonnie Dale Woosley (DOB 1/29/81) of 1811 Brownsville Road, Morgantown, Kentucky was arrested on Thursday, October 13, by Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Heath West andlodged in the Butler County Jail.  Woosley was charged with Parole Violation, theft by unlawful taking over $500, theft by deception cold checks, and criminal possession of a forged instrument second degree.  Woosley was stopped by Hartford Police Department with the stolen property( pictured above) in his vehicle.  When questioned he admited to stealing the property and checks from 3433 Love Brooklyn Road.  He also admitted t

 Last night’s meeting of the Morgantown City Council dealt with rescheduling Halloween, a conflict over a modular home permit, recycling, and a statement by the mayor about unspecified allegations against city residents.
 

 On Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 3:47 P.M., Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to the Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville, Kentucky regarding an alleged assault. At 7:44 PM, Trooper Greg Dukes arrested Hank R. Hocker (21) of Morgantown, Kentucky. Mr. Hocker was charged with Assault 2nd. Degree. He was lodged in the Butler County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Trooper Greg Dukes.

The battle against drug use and abuse is an ongoing struggle by law enforcement officials and that struggle includes more than methamphetamine use, which gets most of the attention.  According to Morgantown Police Chief Billy Phelps, his department is actively trying to help citizens dispose of old or unneeded legal drugs and medications so they don't end up in the wrong hands.   
For the third time this year, the Morgantown Police Department is disposing of unused and unwanted drugs that have been left at the Police Medication Disposal Box.

The Butler County Fiscal Court met on Monday night, October 10th, in its regular monthly session. All members were present. After approving minutes of prior meetings the Court heard Kim Marrow from the Barren River Area Development District. Marrow asked the court to pass a resolution authorizing BRADD to change the names of several roads on the Butler County Road series map.

Honoring the Family of Captain James W. Burch Saturday, October 15, 2:00 – 4:00 pm
On Saturday, October 15, the Green River Museum will host its annual fall open house, this year honoring the second family to live in the historic Superintendent's House, the James W. Burch family.( pictured above with men  in 1925) Completed in 1913, the Superintendent’s House in Woodbury, Kentucky, was built by the Corps of Engineers as a residence for the Superintendent of the Green River system.  Last year the museum honored the William S. Overstreet family as first residents of the house.
