Teacher with Butler County Ties Receives Top KWLA Awards

When Ohio County High School Spanish teacher, Jana Shultz, learned that she had been nominated for the KWLA (Kentucky World Language Association) Outstanding Spanish Teacher of the Year award, she believed the odds of walking away with the title were not exactly in her favor.  After all, Ms. Shultz was up against teachers from across the state, many of whom were from school districts that were well-funded, an advantage that OCHS did not enjoy.

Mudd Family Top Off Concert Series

The second season of concerts on the square wrapped up Saturday with some of the best family gospel harmony around. Mark Mudd with his wife Rebecca and son Jacob sang to a delighted audience at the middle school gym after fall like temperatures arrived on Saturday.

 Mudd, bass singer for the Crossmen quartet, sang a variety of his favorites before being joined by his family. The applause was loud and often.

Turn Morgantown PINK

Last year's event honored survivors.

On Sunday, October 14 on the Morgantown Court House lawn, there will be a "Turn Morgantown PINK" event for our community to celebrate October`s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   The BCHS Band will start performing at 1:30 and the 2nd Annual  Observance  will begin at 2:00.   Music will be provided by : Hannah Embry , Donna Embry, Allison Kurfiss, Lennon Johnson, Rachel Johnson, and Bailey Hunt.   Mona White Daugherty will share her survivor story.  There will be a recognition ceremony for  breast cancer survivors and a candle-lighting ceremony to  honor the ones that have lost their battle w

Kentucky drivers entering peak season for deer collisions

If asked to identify the most dangerous animal in the United States, most people, depending on where they live, would likely point first to a bear, mountain lion, alligator or even a shark. While those all seem like logical choices, statistics from the Insurance Information Institute reveal that the deadliest animal roaming the countryside is actually the white-tailed deer.

The HSUS Offers Reward in Rochester, Ky., Dog Abuse Case

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for abusing a dog in Rochester, Ky., by placing a large rubber ring around his neck.

Jenkins Inducted Into Hall of Fame

One of our own was honored a few weeks ago, Mrs. Anita Jenkins was inducted into the Kentucky Housing Association Hall of Fame.  Jenkins became the first recipient in the Hall of Fame.She was selected by the members, representing 105 agencies from across Kentucky.

“There was no doubt who the first recipient would be,” said Kathylynn Gray, president of KHA, during the presentation of the award to Jenkins.
