Wreck on Natcher

UPDATE: According to law enforcement Christina Gunterman,23, of Owensboro was north bound when her SUV crossed the median and hit the tractor trailer owned by Fikes Truck Line of Arkansas.  The truck went off the right side of the parkway and overturned. Gunterman was not injured.  The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to the Medical Central with non-emergency injuries .

Green River Museum Hosts Book Signing

Roger G. Givens

On Saturday September 1st, a book signing was held for "Images of America: Butler County" a book written by Roger G. Givens, retired newspaper publisher, and Nancy Richey. The book is part of the "Images of America" series published by Arcadia Publishing in South Carolina. Givens states that the book contains a little over 200 photographs, each with a 50-70 word caption. He says they submitted 220 photographs but some were not included by the publisher due to quality limitations.

Single Vehicle Accident Sends One to U of L

UPDATE: The driver of the car was James Lacefield of Grayson County.

A single car accident on Love-Lee Road near the Grayson County line earlier this evening resulted in one person being airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital.  The driver of the 1993 Chevy Lumina left the roadway and over turned.  His name has not been released. 

Responding to the scene were the Fourth District Fire Department, Butler County Rescue Squad, Butler County Sheriff Deputy Joe Alford, Air Evac, and the Kentucky State Police.

The 2012 Football Homecoming Queen is Sierra Fields.  She is the daughter of Greg and Michelle Fields of Morgantown.  Homecoming King is Jacob Richmond the son of David and Kelly White Richmond of Possum Hollow.

Butler County Native Named Chief of Staff

Gov. Steve Beshear has promoted longtime aide Larry Bond to be his chief of staff. Bond is a native of Butler County who now lives in Louisville. He is the son of the late Troy Bond and Ailene Bond of Morgantown. Bond succeeds Mike Haydon, who died suddenly earlier this month.

Bond, who had been serving since 2010 as a deputy chief of staff, previously was commissioner and later deputy secretary of the Department of Public Protection.

New Reed's Ferry Update: Voyage Underway

Underway at 10:10 Wednesday morning

UPDATE: The Bridget Renea, replacement ferry barge for Reed’s ferry, began its last leg of travel down the Green River Wednesday morning as those who helped build it and others watched. The trip, expected to take four hours according to the crew, was to begin at mile mark 142, Aberdeen boat ramp.  It would pass the old Borah ferry site at mile mark 132, then on to the Reed’s ferry site at mile mark 123.

WarrenRECC Sponsors Chamber Luncheon

Warren RECC sponsored the monthly Morgantown-Butler Chamber Luncheon on Thursday at the Butler County Extension Office.  Scott Duvall, of WRECC, was the guest speaker and shared information about the second largest electric cooperative in Kentucky.

“WarrenRECC has over 60,000 member accounts with 6,107 in Butler County,” said Duvall.

Man seriously injured in single-vehicle wreck on KY 79 in Aberdeen

Aberdeen Hill on KY 79 North was the site of a single-vehicle accident earlier this afternoon that has sent a Morgantown man to the hospital via Air Evac.  

According to Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Reneer, Thomas V. (Tommy) Smith (204 Thomas Street in Morgantown; DOB 9/12/77) was traveling north on KY 79 in a 1997 green Ford Ranger pick-up when he apparently dipped slightly off the shoulder of the road below the former Embry's Grocery and Bait Shop, overcorrected, lost control, and flipped multiple times.  He was ejected from the vehicle.

Provo Home Total Loss

Firefighters were called to 622 Old Provo Road shortly after 9:00p.m. Friday night.  The home of Milton and Carolyn Wilson was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The home was a total loss.  Firefighters from Morgantown, Rochester and 2nd District responded to the scene.

Wreck: 4 Vehicles, 1 Arrest

Deputy Chris Reneer and Trooper Brian McKinney

A wreck this afternoon occurred in front of Sonic involving four vehicles and resulting in an arrest.

Judy Fay Hite, 57, of Logan County hit a vehicle causing a chain reaction involving three other vehicles.  Hite was arrested at the scene by Butler County Sheriff Deputy Chris Reneer.  She was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs .08, first offense and operating on suspended revoked operator’s license and lodged in the Butler County Jail. Hite was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup.
