Santa Helps Toys For Tots

Santa and one of his elves, pictured above, prove to be camera friendly during a roadblock for Toys for Tots Saturday morning. A Santa spokesperson (possibly an elf) explained that the event was organized by Cash Express and is one of two efforts underway. The other is the collection of coats for the needy. BTN Facebook Fan of the Month Jennifer Robbins Picks Merle Norman

BTN Winner Jennifer Robbins and Hannah Embry of Merle Norman

Luck was with Jennifer Drake Robbins twice last month as she was picked as the Beech Tree News Facebook Fan of the Month for October.  As part of the BTN/Facebook promotion, Robbins was awarded a $50 gift certificate to the local business of her choice, which was Merle Norman in Morgantown.  Robbins was a BTN Fan of the Day, which made her eligible for the monthly $50 drawing, said Diane Dyer, president of Beech Tree Media.

Phone Scam

According to Butler County Schools Superintendent Scott Howard, they have received calls from local businesses stating that someone called them claiming to be from Butler County High School and that they were collecting money for the school's latest fund raiser.  Mr. Howard wants everyone to know that this is a scam, they are not raising money over the phone and would never ask you for your bank account or credit card information over the phone.  If you are contacted, please alert local authorities.

The Annual Butler County DAR Christmas Home Tour will be held Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The cost is only $2 per home with all proceeds going to the DAR Scholarship fund. This year’s tour includes five homes: Kenneth and Debbie Young, Bill and Brenda Smith, Pat and Kim Grubb, John and Beth Embry, and Stephen and Stacy Rice.

The annual Butler County DAR Christmas Home Tour will be held Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The cost is only $2 per home with all proceeds going to the DAR Scholarship fund. This year’s tour includes five homes, one of which is that of Pat and Kim Grubb located on Eric Young Rd off US Highway 79 South toward Russellville. This is a beautiful brick on a country lane complete with a back porch for viewing local wildlife including deer, turkey or whatever animal might be passing.

Beshear Announces Daicel to Locate New Manufacturing Operation in Beaver Dam

Automotive company to create 25 new jobs, invest $8.8 million:  Governor Steve Beshear today announced Daicel Safety Tube Processing, a Japanese automotive components manufacturer, will locate a new manufacturing facility in Beaver Dam, creating 25 new jobs. The $8.8 million investment represents the third Daicel plant to locate in Beaver Dam, bringing the company’s total Kentucky employment to 525.

Two Men Killed on KY 185

As a follow-up to a breaking news brief initially posted late last night on the BTN News Ticker, two Butler County men are dead following a one-car accident in KY 185.  Troopers Brian McKinney, Daren Phelps, Adam Morgan and Sgt. Mitch Hampton responded to the scene and upon their arrival they found a single vehicle engulfed by fire. The preliminary investigation shows that this vehicle was southbound on KY 185 when it crossed the northbound lane and slid off of the roadway striking two trees.

Fire on Love-Lee Road

Fire Departments from 5th District, 4th District, Bear Creek and Caneyville responded to a fire at 6822 Love Lee Road on Wednesday morning around 9:30am.  A neighbor called and reported the fire, believed to have started from an electrical outlet in the living room.

Fatal Accident on Hwy 70

A single vehicle accident on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 claimed the life of Frankie Kane Embry, 48 of Morgantown.  The accident occurred on Rochester Road Hwy/70.  Embry was traveling west bound in a Ford Explorer when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, left the road, striking a tree.  Embry was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Butler County Deputy Cornor Brian McKinney at 4:33 pm.
