Newland named Sen. Jeff Green Scholar

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 14, 2020) — Camryn Newland, a 2020 graduate of Butler County High School, has been named a Senator Jeff Green Scholar by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA). To earn this honor, a student must achieve a 4.0 grade point average each year of high school and score at least a 28 composite on the ACT.

Cockfighting in the crosshairs at Morgantown debate

On Sunday, September 6, approximately 25-30 individuals gathered at the Eva J. Hawes Building in Morgantown to listen to a debate between two very well-own activists in the world of cockfighting

Steve Hindi is an American animal-rights activist and businessman. He is the founder and president of the animal rights organization Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK). 

B.L. Cozard Jr. is a gamecock farmer and participates in cockfighting. He is actively involved in legislation affecting his fellow Americans and animal ownership.

IN INVESTMENTS IN EDUCATION, HEALTH AND SAFETY NET PROGRAMS IN BUTLER COUNTY

(September 10th, 2020) - United Way of Southern Kentucky announced today that it is investing a total of $25,200 115 in Education, Health, and Safety Net programs and services for its July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 funding period in Butler County. 9 local programs provided through 5 service providers will receive the allocated campaign dollars and donor designations.

Local Farmer Directs America's Farmers Grow Communities Donation To Butler County 4-H Council

County farmer Betty Farris, directed $2,500 to Butler County 4-H Council through America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Bayer Fund. 

Celebrating its 10th year, America’s Farmers Grow Communities partners with farmers to support nonprofit organizations strengthening rural communities. The program offers farmers the chance to direct a $2,500 donation to a nonprofit of their choice. It has awarded more than $33 million to over 8,000 nonprofits across rural America.
