Gas prices in West Central Kentucky are six cents higher this week at $3.060, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

Sheriff's Dept. makes drug bust; one arrested; suspected fentanyl, meth seized

The Butler County Sheriff's Department conducted drug raids at 9814 Caneyville Road and 10389 Caneyville Road on Monday morning, October 25, around 10:00 a.m. As a result, John Thomas McGuffin (DOB 6/5/75) was arrested and lodged in the Butler County Jail.

BC Schools to relax mask mandate

With a continued drop in the number of Covid-19 cases locally and across the state, several Kentucky school districts are reevaluating their policies regarding the wearing of facemasks in school. Butler County Schools is one of those districts and will be implementing a "Unmasked While Seated" policy beginning Monday, October 25, as long as students are seated and socially distanced at least three feet. Students will still be required to mask while moving. The change will be in effect through Friday, November 5, and will be evaluated at this time. Per federal and state regulations, students will still be required to mask on school buses and at the Butler County Area Technology Center.

AAA: It’s the Peak Time of Year for Deer Collisions

The average AAA Insurance vehicle damage claim for a deer incident is about $3,500.

Cooler weather and shorter days means more deer are now gracing roadways. The number of deer-vehicle collisions increases during October, peaking in November and December. To reduce inconvenience, costs, and potential danger, AAA East Central cautions motorists to be especially vigilant on the road in animal-prone areas in the months ahead.

Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Warren County

Bowling Green, KY. (October 14, 2021) – On Thursday, October 14th, 2021, the Kentucky State Police Post 3, Bowling Green, received a call for service in reference to a collision that occurred on Interstate 165. Units responded to the scene located at 13 mile marker of I-165 southbound in Warren County.

FISCAL COURT: Rochester news; Clerk presents quarterly report; county hires two part-time employees

Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, October 11, at the courthouse. All magistrates were in attendance: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant.

After returning from a closed session, the Court approved hiring two part-time employees (less than 100 hours per month) for the road department. Tim Fishburn was hired by a 4-1 vote with Whittinghill voting no, while Jerry Basham was also employed by a 4-1 vote with Timmy Givens voting no.

Homemakers' Proclamation issued; volunteer hours highlighted

Butler County Homemakers' President Tammy Alford, member Sherry Johnson, and Tracy Thronton, the Family & Consumer Science Agent for Butler County, presented Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps and Butler County Judge-Executive Tim Flener with a check to represent the volunteer hours of the Butler County Homemakers. There are currently four homemakers 'clubs in Butler County: Dexterville, Aunt Jane's, Midway, and the mailbox club.

Kentucky General Assembly to begin 2022 session on Jan. 4

FRANKFORT – State lawmakers have finalized a calendar for the 2022 Regular Session with plans to convene the General Assembly on Jan. 4 and adjourn April 14.

The session is scheduled to last 60 days, the maximum allowed under the state constitution in even-numbered years. Lawmakers will have until Feb. 28 to introduce bills in the House and March 2 to introduce bills in the Senate.
