Testimony highlights desire for an electric vehicle tax

FRANKFORT— Counties across the Commonwealth would like to see lawmakers make a few changes during the upcoming 2022 legislative session.

One of those changes includes establishing an electric vehicle tax or fee.

Representatives from the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) presented the group’s 2022 legislative agenda to the Interim Joint Committee on Local Government today.

10th Annual WLBQ Radiothon raises over $19K for Morgantown Mission

The 10th Annual Radiothon for the Morgantown Mission, held on Friday, November 5, began with the goal of collecting enough pledges to fill 450-holiday food baskets for needy local families. Continuing through Friday night’s football game, 640 baskets were pledged, raising $19,200.  "Thank you, God," was a phrase often heard on Friday as several people, businesses, groups, churches, farmers, county officials, and organizations came out to show their support for the Morgantown Mission.

Magistrates approve Sheriff's '22 budget; agree to purchase new truck for Rescue Squad

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, November 8, at the courthouse. First District Magistrate Stevie Givens, Second District Magistrate Kevin Phelps, Fourth District Magistrate David Whittinghill, and Fifth District Magistrate Dillon Bryant were present.  Third District Magistrate Timmy Givens was unable to attend.

Mattie Wells, American FFA Degree Recipient

Less than two percent of former FFA members go on to earn an American FFA Degree. This year former 2020 BCHS graduate, Mattie Wells, became a member of this statistic.
Even more astounding is that she shares this honor with her father, Shane Wells, an American Degree holder himself.
Almost 30 years to the day her father received his degree, Mattie was able to walk across the stage in front of thousands at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN, on October 30th to receive her own.

State releases county unemployment data for September 2021; Butler 3.8 percent

Unemployment rates rose in two Kentucky counties between September 2020 and September 2021, fell in 116, and stayed the same in two, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.  Butler County's September rate was 3.8 percent.
