WKU to celebrate Parent & Family Weekend Sept. 24-26

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University will celebrate Parent & Family Weekend Sept. 24-26 with numerous events, highlighted by recognition of the 2021 Family of the Year during WKU Football’s game against Indiana.

Parent & Family Weekend begins Sept. 24 with WKU Softball vs. Lakeland Community College at 3 p.m., WKU Volleyball vs. Marshall at 6 p.m. and Back To The Classics concert by the WKU Symphony at 7:30 p.m.

Bryant named to National Association of Counties' Committees

Fifth District Magistrate Dillon Bryant

Fifth District Magistrate Dillon Bryant has been appointed by Larry Johnson, president of the National Association of Counties (NACo), to serve on two committees. Bryant will serve as the Subcommittee Vice-Chair of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee (Agriculture and Food Safety Subcommittee) and a Rural Action Caucus (RAC) member.

Grand Jury Indictments

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 21 individuals on August 31, 2021.  Charges include  attempted murder, sexual abuse of a minor, possession of controlled substance, theft of identity, and burglary.  Arraignments are set for September 14, 2021.

Guthrie Supports Fifth District Rural Volunteer Fire Department Grant

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) supported a federal grant that has been awarded to the Fifth District Rural Volunteer Fire Department.

A federal grant totaling $73,800 is coming from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. Guthrie voted to fund FEMA’s AFG program in Congress to help fire departments purchase needed resources.

Gov. Beshear Announces Newest Kentucky Work Ready Communities

Gov. Andy Beshear announced today that Butler County has achieved Kentucky Work Ready Communities in Progress status.

The Kentucky Work Ready Communities certification program from the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (KWIB) and the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC) assures employers that a local workforce has the talent and skills necessary to staff existing jobs and to master the innovative technologies new jobs will require.

Lawmakers prepare for possible special session to address COVID-19 obstacles

FRANKFORT— Schools, hospitals, childcare centers and long-term care facilities testified before lawmakers this week asking for help as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause staffing, funding and operational challenges.

The hearings – organized by four legislative committees – were all part of an effort to consider solutions to COVID-related issues ahead of a potential special session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
