Stivers sees legislature returning mask policy to school districts, maybe with guidelines; Beshear says universal masking needed

The Kentucky General Assembly may well let local school officials decide mask policy, rather than follow a state school-board regulation, Senate President Robert Stivers said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

Asked if the legislature would shift the authority for school mandates back to locals, Stivers said, "I can see that very seriously happening, because we've had certain school systems where you have had very successful responses without a mask mandate."

Gov. Beshear Announces Newest Kentucky Work Ready Communities

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 24, 2021) – Gov. Andy Beshear announced today that Butler County has achieved Kentucky Work Ready Communities in Progress status.

The Kentucky Work Ready Communities certification program from the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (KWIB) and the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC) assures employers that a local workforce has the talent and skills necessary to staff existing jobs and to master the innovative technologies new jobs will require.

State high court tells lower court to dissolve its injunction blocking laws legislature passed to limit governor's emergency powers

The high court said Beshear's argument was off base, and "The General Assembly establishes the public policy of the commonwealth. . . . The trial court’s findings substituted its view of the public interest for that expressed by the General Assembly." But the high court did reserve for the future the question of whether a 30-day limit is too short.
