BRIGHT Community Health Assessment Survey

The Barren River Initiative to Get Healthy Together (BRIGHT) Coalition has released its 2021 Community Health Assessment Survey, and aims to collect as many responses from residents of the 10-county Barren River Region as possible. The BRIGHT Coalition is made up of representatives from healthcare entities, public schools, local hospitals, and community advocates that work together to make the region a healthier place for all.

Bipartisan bill extending unemployment eligibility to domestic violence victims in the works

Rep. Nima Kulkarni, D-Louisville, and Rep. Samara Heavrin, R-Leitchfield, presenting a bill they are drafting for the 2022 regular session to help domestic violence victims qualify for unemployment insurance.

FRANKFORT— Domestic violence victims often face many barriers when it comes to escaping their abuser.

Two Kentucky lawmakers shared plans today with the Interim Joint Committee on Economic Development and Workforce Investment that they hope will eliminate one of those barriers.

Ambulance Service Receives $10,000 Grant

Butler County Judge-Executive Tim Flener presented a $10,000 check to the Butler County Ambulance Board. The money comes from the KBEMS Ambulance Block Grant, which the Ambulance Board applies for each year. In the past, the money has purchased cots and monitoring equipment. This year the Board plans to pay toward the principal on their new ambulance

Conservation Partners Celebrate Green River Dam Removal

Roundhill, KY | Sept. 20, 2021 — Today, five conservation partners celebrated the largest dam removal in Kentucky history—the demolition of Lock and Dam #5 on the Green River. The Butler County event brought together The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, and Kentucky Waterways Alliance.

Senator Rand Paul talks issues in Morgantown

Senator Rand Paul stopped in Butler County on Wednesday afternoon, September 8, at the Butler County Extension Office.  The senator talked about Covid-19, the nation’s debt and budget, the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, and the environment, among other items. Several community members and elected officials were present to meet the senator.
