Jarrod Jacobs: God's Barriers On The Road To Hell

Last week, we noted several things that God uses as “barriers” on the road to Hell. He works through the Bible, through the cross, and through the preaching of the gospel to get people to walk the “strait and narrow” way that leads to life (Matt. 7:13-14). While these barriers are effective, these are not the only ones He uses to bring people to Him. What other barriers does God use?

BLANK CANVAS -A while back now, two people whom I considered kindred spirits, left this world behind. One of them was a favorite author of mine whose words truly inspired, intrigued and challenged me. He was one of the first to let me know I was not alone with the questions I was wrestling with and he started me on a journey that lead to several others, whom have shaped my life in a transforming way.

This Friday, my favorite Netflix show, The Ranch, returns.  However, it’s going to look quite different.  As you know, Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson created and star in the show.  Well, Masterson co-starred in the show until his firing December of last year because of sexual assault allegations.  Since then, I’ve wondered who wo

Foods provide more than nourishment in life. Foods offer comfort and play a part in social events. Often, we associate food with a fond memory, such as an event or a period in life. And sweet corn reminds me of my late husband’s family home. His mom’s corn was always delicious!

Last week, when I heard about the suicides of designer, Kate Spade, and celebrity chef, Anthony Bourdain, I felt sadness and compassion, but also a sense of gratitude for escaping the hand of suicide.  I stood at that door once, maybe even twice, but I decided not to walk through.  Because I’ve felt the weight of hopelessness, I try to be understanding toward those who succumb to its power.  I read once that faith has to do

Picture a road that has washed away. When those working to repair the road come to the scene, they will put up barriers, or barricades to keep people from endangering their lives and the lives of others. Barriers may have flashers, flags, and any other attention-getting devices attached to them. These barriers are intended to warn people and keep them safe.

This Thursday marks the beginning of the end of an error.  Oops, I mean era.  Six years, four of them on ABC, is pretty darn impressive for a tv show these days.  In a world where so many network shows get cancelled after one or two years, Nashville had kind of become the “that show still on”?

According to Sangram Singh, “Maintaining good health should be the primary focus of everyone” (https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/good_health). Good health information helps us make good choices. Most people want to be healthy, but we need information. Some health-related information I’ve read recently included the following:
